Romans 5:17 Provision of Righteousness and Life

“For if, by the trespass of the one man, death reigned through that one man, how much more will those who receive God’s abundant provision of grace and the gift of righteousness reign in life through the one man, Jesus Christ! Romans 5:17

When Adam had sinned, it brought about a chain reaction of sin and death. Later the law was given to point out the sin in people’s lives. This made sin reign even more in people and brought about death.

Jesus had brought life. This life was given by the grace of God. God did not have to provide for salvation. He could have destroyed everyone and started over again. However, God is a god of grace and mercy and love. He wants people to be saved. He wants to have fellowship with them.

Here Paul gets excited about how much God will provide grace, righteousness and life through Jesus Christ. If one man’s sin can bring death to everyone, how much more will one man’s death bring about life to everyone?

God knows that you will mess up and sin. He knows that you will keep falling into sin. This is where His grace picks up. He is continually working with you to make you more like Jesus every day.

All to often believers want to give up because they keep falling into a sin. They feel like they are worthless and cannot really serve and love God. The feelings are true in their own power.

Alone you cannot love and serve God. But with Jesus Christ all things are possible. God’s grace is poured out to help you overcome the sin and return to Him. The grace, given through Jesus, provides the way to love and serve God. It provides the way to be righteous and holy for God.

Are you striving to be righteous on your own? Or are you doing it in the power of Jesus?

Do you accept the grace Jesus is providing you? Or are you condemning yourself?

I pray today that you will know the love God has for you; that you will see the grace God is giving you; that you will seek Jesus; that you will live in His strength and power; and that you will allow Jesus to make you righteous and holy before God.
