“Your eye is the lamp of your body. When your eyes are healthy, your whole body also if full of light. But when they are unhealthy, your body also is full of darkness.” Luke 11:34
Jesus is talking about how a lamp is used. Lamps are put on a stand and turned on (lit in the Old Testament) to allow light to shine in a room or area. The purpose is to be able to see.
In your body, your eyes work in the same way as a lamp does. It allows your body to see light. Most of the time your eye is in good condition and you can see clearly.
When your eye is hurting or scratched from something that got into it, a patch is placed over it to help it heal. During that time you cannot see out of that eye. It makes it difficult to do things that need to be done.
In the spiritual realm, your eye is also a lamp into your body. It allows things to be brought into you. Things that you see can either be healthy or unhealthy for your soul.
What are your eyes seeing in books, pictures, movies, and even locations? Are these things good or damaging to your body and soul?
Many people will try to justify seeing some things by stating that is just a depiction of something that is real life. It is real how a man murders someone; it is real how two will have sex; and it is real how other sins are portrayed.
You are to flee all sin. All sin is darkness, a separation from God. When your eyes are filled with darkness, your body and soul are filled with darkness. Light and darkness cannot be in the same place at the same time.
Fill your eyes with things that glorify God. Fill with things that make you more like Jesus. Fill them with things that bring light and life into your body and soul, not death and darkness.
What are you seeing today? Is your lamp turned on to light or darkness? Are your eyes healthy or unhealthy?
I pray today that God will fill you with His Holy Spirit; that God will direct you to see things that will bring Him glory; that you will close your eyes to unhealthy sites; that you will have healthy eyes that glorify God; and that God’s light will shine in and through you.
