For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves, Colossians 1:13
Throughout the earth and time there have been many different kingdoms. Some have been filled with joy and happiness, while others were filled with destruction and sorrow.
Those who have lived in oppressive kingdoms or nations, have always desired to get out of them. Most people want joy and happiness in their lives. Yet, many do not even realize that they are living in an oppressive state, because that is all they have ever known.
Paul opens his letter to the Colossians telling them that he and they have been rescued from a dominion of darkness. They were brought into the kingdom of Jesus.
When a person lives in darkness his entire life, he does not know what light is. He has no understanding of what he is missing out on, because he has never seen it.
Once a person gets a taste of true freedom and life, he wants to get away from the dark bondage and death that he is in. Yet, many do not know how to escape the darkness and death.
The majority in the world are living in this darkness of self and sin and do not know it. Some have seen the light of Jesus and been rescued from it.
Every believer in Jesus has been rescued and now lives in a new kingdom, one of light, love and life. There is a joy and a peace that the world cannot understand or enjoy, because they live in a different kingdom, one of darkness and oppression.
Believers must realize where they have been rescued from and what they are now living in. Along with being a new creation, every believer is now a new citizen of a new kingdom.
As a believer, you have also been rescued from the dark kingdoms of this world. You have been forgiven and released from the bondage of sin and death in order to live life for God.
Do not allow yourself to go back into the darkness of the old kingdom, but stay in God’s kingdom. Live and walk in the light of Jesus everywhere you go while here on this earth.
There is an eternal kingdom waiting for you to step into, as long as you continue to walk in that kingdom on earth.
Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Savior; that you will know the kingdom of God in your life; that you will live in the light of Jesus; that you will be the light of Jesus to this dark world; and that you will reach out to help bring others out of the darkness into God’s kingdom.
The night is nearly over; the day is almost here. So let us put aside the deeds of darkness and put on the armor of light. Romans 13:12
Night is always known for darkness. Not only the darkness of the absence of light, but also darkness of deeds and actions.
The majority of robberies, violence and other crimes occur in the darkness of night. Those who do those things, do them in the night, because they do not want to be exposed or seen in the light of day. When day begins to approach, many will stop doing the crimes.
Paul just pointed out that salvation is nearer than ever before. Salvation comes in the morning, so one is to stop doing evil deeds and put on God’s armor of light.
Just as the world lives in sinful ways, there are many believers who continue to purposefully live in sinful ways in the same way. They continue to sin, thinking that no one, nor God can see them or cares. Some of this is done behind closed doors or in the mind, while some is done openly.
Many believe that they have time to repent and change later, rather than right away. Others feel that it is acceptable to stay in sin, because of God’s great mercy and grace upon them.
In both cases, people are not realizing that day is approaching where God’s light will reveal their sinful acts. It is also difficult to turn from sin when one does not realize that salvation is right around the corner and all temptation will be done away with.
Every believer must realize that Jesus died to take away their sin, not so they can sin more, but that they may sin less and remain sinless. They must be ready to wake up, by getting rid of sinful acts, for their salvation is near.
Examine your life and see if you are allowing any sinful habits in your life. Know that Jesus is returning soon or God may require your life soon. Your salvation is coming.
Turn away from all sin. Stop doing what is against God and His word. Put on the armor of light, God’s armor. Live as God has called you to live your life, not as the world lives, but holy and righteous.
Time to change is running out. The day is almost here when you time is up.
Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Savior; that you will turn away from all sinful ways of living; that you will live in the light of God’s word; that you will know your salvation is coming; and that God will strengthen you to live for Him.
