Luke 7:48 You Are Forgiven

“Then Jesus said to her, Your sins are forgiven.” Luke 7:48

While Jesus was sitting down eating at a Pharisee’s house, a woman who had been a prostitute, living a sinful life, came in to see Him. She had a jar of alabaster perfume with her. She wept at His feet and washed His feet with her tears, then poured the perfume out on His feet.

The people watching were very stunned. They knew who this woman was and could not believe Jesus was accepting anything from her. Jesus then surprises them with stating that she came in repentant of her sins and believing in Him. He then tells her that her sins are forgiven.

Even though the Scriptures do not show that the woman had said anything, her actions spoke volumes. Alabaster perfume was extremely expensive and she had poured it out on the feet of Jesus. She had humbled herself in washing His feet with her tears and drying them with her hair.

These actions show a sign of remorse for harming someone. She knew her sins had hurt Jesus/God. She was now turning from them.

Since she had faith in Jesus, He forgave her.

Jesus still does the same today. If you are repentant of your sins, He will forgive you. The woman showed her repentance by giving Jesus all that she had. She gave up her worldly treasures to show she had no value in herself or her stuff.

Many people are repentant of their sins. They hear Jesus state they are forgiven, but they do not believe it. They continue to hold onto the past and beat themselves up for it.

No matter what you have done in the past, if you have repented and turned from those sins, Jesus has forgiven you. Satan wants you to believe that you are not really forgiven. Do not believe those lies.

God can change you, just like Jesus changed that woman. You can have His peace in knowing that you are forgiven. Do not hold onto those sins and the past. Seek Jesus and turn from your sins. Be forgiven today.

I pray that today you will turn from all of your sins; that you will have a heart of repentance; that you will know that Jesus has forgiven you; that you will live in peace with God; and that you will share that forgiveness with others.
