Luke 8:8 Really Listening

“Still other seed fell on good soil. It came up and yielded a crop, a hundred times more than was sown. When he said this, he called out, Whoever has ears to hear, let them hear.” Luke 8:8

Jesus had just finished telling a parable about a farmer sowing seed. Some of the seed fell in bad places and didn’t grow, while others fell in better place and grew some, and, yet, other seed fell in good places and really grew well. As He finishes this parable, Jesus tells the people who if they have ears they are to hear.

This a first sounds like a crazy statement. Anyone who has ears can hear. The people were standing there listening to Him teach. Of course they heard Him.

Yet, Jesus was talking about more than just physically hearing Him.

Everywhere you go you will hear many things being spoken. Stand in a checkout line at a supermarket and listen. You will hear many people talking. Most of what you hear will not be directed at you. Those statements will not have an effect on you.

Yet, when someone is talking with you, you must listen to what they are saying. Those words should have some effect on you.

God is speaking today. Do you hear what He is saying? Do you see what He is doing?

Some of those things God is saying, is directly for you. Through His Holy Spirit, He may be telling you to talk to someone about Jesus; or to pray with or for someone; or to change your direction. Are you listening?

Listening, here, is more than just physically hearing the words. It is acting upon those words. Doing what God has stated.

You have ears and can listen. Are you hearing what God is telling you today? Are you following God’s words today? Or are you ignoring His words like you would ignore the many people talking in the supermarket checkout line?

I pray today that you will hear the words of God; that you will act upon what God is telling you; that you will listen with action; that God will tell you His plans for you each day; and that God will use you to build His kingdom.
