For if you live according to the flesh you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live. Romans 8:13
Seeking what makes life great is the goal of most people. Everyone is trying out new things to see if it makes life better. Changing jobs for better pay, trying new hobbies, new foods, traveling more, partying more, a bigger house, fancier car and much more that makes it look like life will be much more fun and enjoyable. As they try all these things, their lives are still empty and missing something.
Paul tells the Roman church that anyone who lives by the flesh will die, but if they live by the Spirit and put to death the acts of the body, they will live.
Sinful pleasures appear to be fun in the moment. It gives a person something that one feels is being desired and needed. Sin is made to appear good and so people run to sin seeking life.
Drugs destroy the mind and body. Immoral sex brings on unwanted diseases. Following false gods deceives a person into walking a path towards death. Lying breaks all trust. Hatred kills both the one hated and the one doing the hating. Peace is missing. Life is missing.
Rather than walking down the path of death by sinning against God, one is to put to death all the sins against God by the power of His Holy Spirit. On one’s own, one will never be able to stop sinning. The flesh is too weak. But with the help of the Holy Spirit one can overcome sin and live life to its fullest, knowing peace and joy with an eternal hope of salvation free from all pain and suffering.
Going through life, you have to make many different choices. You have to choose how you will live life. The world wants you to follow their ways of sin, promising life, but delivering only death. Choose to be led by the Holy Spirit and put to death all the sin in your life. Jesus removed all those sins when you chose to believe in Him, don’t bring them back. Know true life as you flee all sin and run towards God and the things of God. Live life as God intended it to be lived.
Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that God will reveal sinful acts in your life; that the Holy Spirit will give you strength to put to death those sinful acts; and that you will live by the Holy Spirit and have true life.
