You, O Lord, remain forever; Your throne from generation to generation. Lamentations 5:19
Everyone wants everything to last forever. It is difficult when things wear out or breakdown. This includes one’s own life. People want to live longer and longer. Sickness and death scare most people because they do not want things to change or to come to an end. They fill their days with things and activities to attempt to last forever and forget that their days are numbered and will come to an end.
Jeremiah writes that God remains forever, from generation to generation.
Building extreme wealth is the desire of many people. They feel that with extreme wealth, they can have what they want and live longer. It can also give them name that will last longer when they pass away in death.
Wealth only lasts as long as a person lives. Once one dies, it is no longer going on. And wealth will not keep a person alive any longer when sickness or death arrives. As much as people want the earth last forever, it will eventually fall apart and be destroyed.
The only thing that lasts forever is God. He has been from the beginning and will last for the rest of eternity. This gives the believer hope. Since God lasts forever, He knows all and has all wisdom. There is nothing that God cannot understand or work through.
Believers need to put their focus and life’s efforts into knowing God and living as He wants one to live, rather than seeking the temporary things of this fallen world and losing it all. The works of God through the believer will last forever. Through the blood of Jesus, believers will step into eternity with God when they pass away.
Over time everything you have will fall apart, along with your body and life. The only thing that you can have that will last forever is God. He will always be there with you. He is offering you eternal life with Him as long as you are willing to believe in the work of Jesus upon the cross.
Knowing that God lasts forever, you can trust His wisdom and guidance in your life. Be willing to step out in faith and do what God is calling you to. Be who God has called you to be and see God do great and wonderful things in and through you.
Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that you will know that God has been forever; that you will trust God’s wisdom and direction in your life; and that you will live for God with your whole life.
