Jesus called out with a loud voice, “Father, into your hands I commit my spirit.” When he had said this, he breathed his last. Luke 23:46
Last moments of life, going into death, are often scary for most people. They do not know what to expect. They often cling to life refusing to want to give up and die. The unknown is something that awaits them and it is fearful.
It is in these last moments of life that many people realize how temporary life is and how little material things really are.
As Jesus was giving up His last breaths of life and dying, He committed His Spirit to the Father, God, and died.
The commitment of His Spirit to the Father is His absolute trust in God to take care of His Spirit and bring Him back to life.
Just as those in the world fear death, there are some believers who fear it also. They question what they believe and what God is going to do. As this happens, it is a sign that they really don’t know or understand God’s great, eternal and perfect love for them.
The only reason God sent Jesus to die was to save people from their sins and give them eternal life. This is perfect love. Knowing this, the believer can trust God’s word and His actions. God will never go back on His word.
At the moment a believer fully trusts God’s perfect word, he can face death with the peace Jesus had. He will be able to commit his life and spirit to God, knowing God will raise him from the dead to eternal life.
This takes away all the fear and unknown of death. There is eternal life found after physical death on this earth.
You may or may not have come close to death yourself. You most likely have seen known of others to die. When you are faced with death, you may have wondered what is next and if you are ready for it. Questions may arise in your heart about whether God will save you or not.
As long as you believe in the work and grace of Jesus and you repent of your sins, God will save you. The life you now live is only temporary. Commit your life and Spirit to God and He will give you eternal life.
Rest in knowing God loves you, forgives you and will raise you from the dead.
Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Savior; that you will know God’s love for you; that you will know God’s mercy towards you; and that you will commit your life and spirit into God’s hands.
