Joshua 9:14 Failing To Ask God

The Israelites sampled their provisions but did not inquire of the LORD. Joshua 9:14

The Gibeonites were a nearby nation and had heard of the Israelites and were afraid of them. They decided to try and deceive the Israelites. They put on worn out clothing and carried old stale food as they went to meet the Israelites. The Gibeonites told them that they were from a country a long way off and needed a place to stay.

All the Israelites checked out their food and clothing, but had not asked God about them, and believed them. The Gibeonites were allowed to stay with the Israelites. Later Joshua found out who the people really were and was upset with them because of the deception, but it was too late.

The world likes to deceive people into believing them. They want things to look better than they really are. Satan, the leader, is the father of lies and deception. He goes around looking like an angel of light, though he is the ruler of darkness and sin.

It does not take much searching to see where the world is trying to deceive believers. Many churches have fallen to the deception of this world, following their practices and beliefs. Speakers talk what sounds like a good Godly sermon, but does not include the full Word of God.

As a believer you must always be alert for deception of the enemy. In order to be aware of what is happening you must always be in God’s Word, the Bible. You must always be in communication (prayer) with God.

Seek God’s direction and wisdom in every situation presented you in your life. Do not take things at face value. Accept what is truly of God, and reject all other things.

If you allow yourself to be deceived by the enemy, you will have allowed the enemy and deception to infiltrate your life. It will cause problems in your life for years to come.

When you seek God’s wisdom and direction, He can protect and guide you into all truth.

Are you asking God for wisdom?

Or are you relying on your own wisdom?

I pray today that God will open your eyes to deception around you; that you will know the truth in words told to you; that you will ask God for direction and wisdom in every area of your life; and that God will protect you from deception of the enemy.
