Joshua 10:42 All Because Of God

Knight on a horse

All these kings and their lands Joshua conquered in one campaign, because the LORD, the God of Israel, fought for Israel. Joshua 10:42

Battles are fought all the time by people everywhere in the world. Some battles are small with just person to person, while others are larger. The levels of the battles can go from individual battles to whole nations or even continents. These battles can also be just words of fighting to thousands of people getting killed.

In each of these battles there is always someone or a group who is leading the fighting. They are giving the directions and guidance as to how to fight and win the battle.

Joshua had been leading the people into the various battles to take over the land of Canaan as God had promised to the Israelites. God had given the direction to go in and destroy every city and everyone in those cities.

As the Israelites were fighting, they were also winning all of the battles. At one point five different kings came up together against the Israelites. In a single campaign, Joshua was able to defeat each of those kings. However, he did not take the credit for winning the battles. He knew that they had won the battles because God had fought for them.

Without God on their side, they would not have won the battles.

Every day believers are also in various battles. They are battling against sin in their own lives, they are battling for the souls of family members, friends, neighbors, and enemies. While the battles may seem personal and the believer is the leader of the battle, it is not the person who wins the battle, it is God.

God is the one who goes with the believer into battle. It is God who gives the strength to win and overcome the enemy.

In your life you will go through some battles. Some will be physical, while the majority will be spiritual. Allow God to guide you in these battles. Allow God to be the one to win the battle with and for you.

Then understand as a battle is won, it was not you had won the battle on your own, but it was God who won the battle. It is God who gives you strength and ability to overcome the enemy.

God is on your side, in that He wants only the best for you–to be like Jesus. This is why He will fight for you. Trust God to win the battles in your life.

I pray today that you will know God’s strength in your life; that you will give God credit for winning battles; that you will allow God to guide you in the battles in your life; and that you will see God’s victory in your life.

Joshua 8:24 Read All Of It

Read the bible

Afterward, Joshua read all the words of the law–the blessings and the curses–just as it is written in the Book of the Law. Joshua 8:34

Reading is something that some people enjoy a lot, while others despise. Some will not pick up a book to read anything, even to save their life, while others are never seen without the nose a book.

The types of books that people read cover an extremely wide spectrum. Some like only certain types, such as sci-fi, fantasy, novels, romance, adventure, biographies, auto-biographies, history, learning, and much more. Each person is different in what they will or will not read.

One type of book that the majority of people do not read is law books. These books are very dry, with lawyer talk. All this type does is talk about what can or cannot be done and cases and consequences of both.

After the mistake of Achan and the Israelites were able to take the city of Ai, Joshua called all the people together, including women, children and foreigners, to read the entire Book of the Law. Everyone had to stand or sit around and listen to all the words from the Book of the Law, which is today’s Genesis through Deuteronomy.

Today the Book of the Law is included in the bible. The bible is still classified as one of the best sellers world-wide, yet, very few people actually take time to read it. Or when they do read it, they pick and choose what they will read.

It is common for many believers to have never read several books of the bible. They skip past some because they are too ‘boring’, the laws, the sacrifices, the numbering of people, and the judgments. They want to only read about the blessings.

God has given you access to His word through the bible. In order to know all of what God has to say about anything, you must take time to read His word. It is His law book, guidance book on how to live on this earth and prepare for eternity.

Yes, there are many blessings, but there are also some curses. While there are some exciting spots to read, there are also some dry spots to read. However, the entire word of God is profitable. It can help you live for Him.

How much of the bible have you read or are reading?

How much of the bible are you skipping?

Read the bible today.

I pray today that you will open your heart to God’s word; that you will see the value of God’s word in your life; that God will change your life through His word; and that you will hide God’s word in your heart to share with others.

Joshua 1:9 No Fear Or Discouragement

No Fear

Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go. Joshua 1:9

Facing the unknown or large enemies can be very intimidating for most people. Looking into the darkness of the unknown often brings on fear, because a person does not really know what is ahead. Most people will freeze up and not want to move forward. It is unknown, unfamiliar territory.

Very few people want to face an enemy. The larger and more established the enemy is, the more fear people can have. People do not want to be killed or cut down by the enemy.

Along with the fear, can come discouragement. It can be discouraging to face one enemy after another. It may feel or appear as though the end of the enemies will never come, there will never be any success.

As Joshua began to take over as leader of the Israelites after Moses died, God came to him and told him not to be afraid or discouraged. God would be with Joshua wherever he would go.

Although today most people are not going into physical battles against an enemy to take over some land, there are battles in every believers heart that they must go through. Looking forward in the direction God wants a person to go will often appear dark and unknown. God can lead a person to step out into a new ministry in the enemy’s territory to take back what has been stolen.

It can also be discouraging for a person to go through battle after battle in his walk with God. These can be battles to overcome sin, or to fight for what is God’s. Yet, the person does not need to be fearful or discouraged. God is with him.

As a believer, God is also with you. No matter what they battle you are facing or are led in, Jesus is right there with you. Jesus overcame death, so there is nothing that you can face that He cannot help you overcome.

The battles you will go through will not always be easy or fun, but with God, you will win. Do not give up in discouragement or fear for in the end you will gain eternal life. The world cannot take what it did not give you.

Go forward with God and do not fear or be discouraged…God is with you!

I pray today that you will know God’s presence in your life; that you will allow God to remove all fear; that you will trust God to keep you; and that you will have God’s strength and courage in your life.

Judges 4:8-9 Not Going As Told

Barak said to her, “If you go with me, I will go; but if you don’t go with me, I won’t go.” “Certainly I will go with you,” said Deborah. “But because of the course you are taking, the honor will not be yours, for the LORD will deliver Sisera into the hands of a woman.” Judges 4:8-9

Sisera had brought his army up to take over the Israelites. It was a very large army and Barak, who was the leader of Israel at the time, was afraid. The prophet, Deborah, told him that he was to go up against Sisera and God would be with him and deliver Israel from Sisera. Barak refused to go without Deborah going along. Since he acted this way, Deborah did go, but he would not receive the honor for winning the battle.

There are times in life when a person needs others around in order to receive needed strength to get something done. However, there are times when God may tell a person to do something alone, on his own.

Doing something new or different that is dangerous can be scary for a person. Stepping out into a new ministry or different course in life can be nerve-wracking and most people will run from it. Others will go forward with it, if someone with more experience goes with them.

When God has called you to step out and do something, you must step out alone just as God has asked you to do, and do it. Do not fear the what may or may not happen. You must trust God to guide your steps and give you the favor to accomplish what He has called you to do.

Even though Barak did go, he did not receive the honor for doing the battle, because he chose to not do it alone as he was told to do.

God honors those who honor Him. In order to honor God, you must do exactly as God tells you to do. Do not rely on others. Rely on God and God alone. If He calls you to do something, He will be with you in it and give you His favor. Trust Him today.

I pray today that you will trust God’s calling for your life; that you will know what God wants you to do; that you will lean on God and not on others for strength; and that God will do great things through you.

Joshua 24:21 Who Will You Serve?

But the people said to Joshua, “No! We will serve the LORD.” Joshua 24:21

As Joshua was giving his last words to the Israelites, he told them that they need to serve the Lord. He also told them that if serving God was not desirable to them, they could serve other gods, but they had to choose one or the other. The people said they would serve God. Joshua finishes out with saying that if they end up not serving God, then He will bring disaster on them. He also told them that he and his family would serve God.

People like to be able to make their own decisions. They want to be able to choose what they want to do or not do. Very few people like to be told not to do something. This is where freedom comes in.

One of the greatest choices that a person will ever make is whether they will serve God or not. This choice is one that will affect not only today, but bring about effects for all of eternity.

Some people make the choice to serve God on a Sunday, but then forget about that choice and choose not to serve God throughout the week. It is a choice that is not made just one time and then forgotten. It is a choice that has to be made daily, and most often dozens to hundreds of times throughout each day.

If you are reading this, most likely you have chosen at some point to serve God. You have given your life to Jesus. However, it does not end there. Each day you will have to choose whether you will sin or not sin, whether you will tell someone about Jesus or keep quiet, whether your thoughts will honor God or not, and the list goes on.

Have you chosen to serve and obey God?

Or are you choosing to serve self and the things of this world?

If you are choosing to serve God, are you serving God with all of your life?

I pray today that you will choose to serve God; that you will dedicate your life to doing what God wants you to do; that you will not turn back to the things of this world; and that you will honor God in all that you think, say and do.

Joshua 23:11 Be Careful To Love God

So be very careful to love the LORD your God. Joshua 23:11

Joshua had led the Israelites for many years and into the land of Canaan. He was one of only two people who were in Egypt when they were released and survived the time in the desert. Now God was about to take him home and so he gave some last instructions to the Israelites. The best instruction that he gave was to be careful to love God.

Being careful to do something is to pay very close attention to what one is doing. It is to not take what is being done lightly or haphazardly.

It has been said that there is no such thing as an accident. The person that said this was looking at the idea that when there is an “accident” it usually meant that someone did something wrong. They did not pay close enough attention to the small details of the situation, which caused the “accident”, thus it was because of neglect that something bad happened.

In your life, you are the only one who can control your relationship with God. Only you can control how much love or do not love God.

Paul said several thousand years later that in order to love God you must obey God. Obeying God is doing what He wants you to do. This takes careful consideration.

Every moment of every day you have choices to make. Those choices are whether to follow God or to follow self and this world. Those choices are to love God or to love self and this world.

If you do not make it your goal to love God, when things get tough you will not love Him first. You have to be very careful and focused to love God with all of your heart, mind and soul.

Take time today to focus on loving God. Seek God and find out where you may not be really loving Him as you should. Learn to love God more and more each day.

As you are very careful to love God, you will learn more of His love for you, which is perfect and never goes wrong.

Are you loving God today?

I pray today that you will know how to love God; that you will seek God daily; that you will obey God in all He says; and that you will know the love God has for you.

Joshua 21:45 No Failed Promises

Not one of all the LORD’s good promises to Israel failed; every one was fulfilled. Joshua 21:45

The Israelites, under the command of Joshua, went into the land of Canaan and started to take the land. Little by little they conquered all of the cities and pushed out most of the people in them. Once all the land was conquered they had peace throughout the land. God had promised them the land and He fulfilled His promise. Not one of His promises fell short.

In your life, most likely you are not having to conquer a physical land in this world. However, every person has areas in his or her own life that need to be conquered. There are battles over the mind and desires of the flesh that wage war against what God wants.

Each person has to grow in the Lord Jesus and become more like Him. The process of doing this is a very great battle. The devil does not want anyone to gain any ground, he wants everyone to lose it all.

As you go into battle for these areas in your life, you are not alone. Jesus had promise to be with you forever. Along with that promise God has given you many other promises that you can count upon.

You are promised comfort with the Holy Spirit.

You are promised all authority and power.

You are promised peace.

You are promised wisdom.

You are promised forgiveness.

You are promised salvation.

You are promised to win the battle.

You are promised that the devil will flee you when resisted.

You are promised to be more than a conqueror.

You are promised healing.

You are promised life for eternity.

You are promised a home in heaven.

You are promised God’s love.

You are promised God’s presence.

You are promised that Jesus will return.

And the list of promises that God has made goes on.

Just as with the Israelites, that every promise was fulfilled, you can rest assured that every promise God has given you will be fulfilled. You can trust God to do what He says He will do. Do not fear, but trust God today.

I pray today that you will know the promises God has for you; that you will know you can trust God’s promises; that you will not be afraid of God failing you; and that you will see God’s promises being fulfilled in your life each day.
