Joshua 6:10 A Time To Be Silent

But Joshua had commanded the army, “Do not give a war cry, do not raise your voices, do not say a word until the day I tell you to shout. Then shout!” Joshua 6:10

Sports teams are groups of people who are ready to take on another team who are the ‘enemy’. At the time of the competition the fans will raise their voices in support of their team to try and intimidate the opposing team. Some of the players will make comments to break down the moral of the other team.

Very rarely will a team go into a competition in silence.

As the Israelites were getting ready to take down Jericho, Joshua told the people to be silent, to not raise a war cry or their voice until told to shout and then they were to shout.

Going into any type of battle, whether physical or otherwise, and remaining silent is difficult for most people. Everyone wants their voice to be heard, to be heard as right and to bring on intimidation in cutting down the enemy verbally.

Acting in this way, with voices, represents how the world does things. Satan often speaks lies to intimidate and detour the believer in his devotion and obedience to God. Believers will often speak up to defend themselves.

When God is at work, the believer does not have to add to what needs to be done. All the believer needs to do is walk in faith, keeping his mouth shut until it is the right time to speak or shout. He is to be led by God’s Holy Spirit as to when to say something or be quiet.

During times of silence, the enemy cannot know what is going on or is about to happen. At the right time the enemy can be taken by surprise with God’s power.

You most likely have some enemies in your life that need to be defeated. It is easy to try and take them on in your own power, your own way and your own time. Doing so may, however, bring on your own defeat.

Seek God’s direction in dealing with the enemy. He may require a time of being silent and waiting for the right time to shout. Trust that God knows the best way to defeat the enemies in your life. Give Him complete authority and walk in His ways.

Be silent when needed and shout when needed.

Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that you will know God’s directions in defeating the enemies in your life; that God will reveal to you when to be silent and when to shout; and that you will trust God’s timing and ways in overcoming the enemy.

Joshua 4:20 Keeping Memories Alive

And Joshua set up at Gilgal the twelve stones they had taken out of the Jordan. Joshua 4:20

Memorials are put up nearly every location throughout the entire world. These memorials can be something huge set up by nations to small pictures drawn by little children hung on a refrigerator door by a parent.

The purpose and focus of a memorial are to remember something good that was accomplished by someone else. Remembering these things can give a person renewed strength and renewed joy and hope during difficult times. It can also help remind a person why things are the way they are.

As the Israelites crossed the Jordan River each tribe was to take up a stone from the middle of it. Those stones were set up at Gilgal as a memorial reminder of what God did for them in parting the river to cross over.

If a believer has his spiritual eyes open, he will see God doing miracles in his life on a regular basis. Nearly impossible situations will work out seamlessly with near perfection. Feared difficulties will clear away with ease.

Even though these things occur on a regular basis, many believers forget about them or chalk them up to being luck or their own personal hard work, rather than the work of God. People are quick to forget the hand of God in their lives.

Remembering what God has done will strengthen the believer for the next time an impassable river is in the way knowing God can part the waters and make a way where there seemed to be no way.

Journals, pictures, or some other physical thing can be set up to remind one as to what miracle God had done in one’s life. Looking back at these memories will help one to remember that God is in control and can do all things.

If you really stop and think about it, you may be able to recall many times God has done some miracle in your life. Think of how many times you had unexpected favor or something turned out not as bad as what was expected.

Take time to set up something to remind you of some of those miracles. Then take time to remember what God has already done. Then share with others what God had done in your life.

This will strengthen you to keep your focus upon God’s abilities and be a witness to others of His abilities.

Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that you will know what God has done in your life; that you will see all miracles God is performing in your life; that you will remember what God has done; and that you will trust God for your future challenges.

Joshua 10:42 All Because Of God

Knight on a horse

All these kings and their lands Joshua conquered in one campaign, because the LORD, the God of Israel, fought for Israel. Joshua 10:42

Battles are fought all the time by people everywhere in the world. Some battles are small with just person to person, while others are larger. The levels of the battles can go from individual battles to whole nations or even continents. These battles can also be just words of fighting to thousands of people getting killed.

In each of these battles there is always someone or a group who is leading the fighting. They are giving the directions and guidance as to how to fight and win the battle.

Joshua had been leading the people into the various battles to take over the land of Canaan as God had promised to the Israelites. God had given the direction to go in and destroy every city and everyone in those cities.

As the Israelites were fighting, they were also winning all of the battles. At one point five different kings came up together against the Israelites. In a single campaign, Joshua was able to defeat each of those kings. However, he did not take the credit for winning the battles. He knew that they had won the battles because God had fought for them.

Without God on their side, they would not have won the battles.

Every day believers are also in various battles. They are battling against sin in their own lives, they are battling for the souls of family members, friends, neighbors, and enemies. While the battles may seem personal and the believer is the leader of the battle, it is not the person who wins the battle, it is God.

God is the one who goes with the believer into battle. It is God who gives the strength to win and overcome the enemy.

In your life you will go through some battles. Some will be physical, while the majority will be spiritual. Allow God to guide you in these battles. Allow God to be the one to win the battle with and for you.

Then understand as a battle is won, it was not you had won the battle on your own, but it was God who won the battle. It is God who gives you strength and ability to overcome the enemy.

God is on your side, in that He wants only the best for you–to be like Jesus. This is why He will fight for you. Trust God to win the battles in your life.

I pray today that you will know God’s strength in your life; that you will give God credit for winning battles; that you will allow God to guide you in the battles in your life; and that you will see God’s victory in your life.

Joshua 8:24 Read All Of It

Read the bible

Afterward, Joshua read all the words of the law–the blessings and the curses–just as it is written in the Book of the Law. Joshua 8:34

Reading is something that some people enjoy a lot, while others despise. Some will not pick up a book to read anything, even to save their life, while others are never seen without the nose a book.

The types of books that people read cover an extremely wide spectrum. Some like only certain types, such as sci-fi, fantasy, novels, romance, adventure, biographies, auto-biographies, history, learning, and much more. Each person is different in what they will or will not read.

One type of book that the majority of people do not read is law books. These books are very dry, with lawyer talk. All this type does is talk about what can or cannot be done and cases and consequences of both.

After the mistake of Achan and the Israelites were able to take the city of Ai, Joshua called all the people together, including women, children and foreigners, to read the entire Book of the Law. Everyone had to stand or sit around and listen to all the words from the Book of the Law, which is today’s Genesis through Deuteronomy.

Today the Book of the Law is included in the bible. The bible is still classified as one of the best sellers world-wide, yet, very few people actually take time to read it. Or when they do read it, they pick and choose what they will read.

It is common for many believers to have never read several books of the bible. They skip past some because they are too ‘boring’, the laws, the sacrifices, the numbering of people, and the judgments. They want to only read about the blessings.

God has given you access to His word through the bible. In order to know all of what God has to say about anything, you must take time to read His word. It is His law book, guidance book on how to live on this earth and prepare for eternity.

Yes, there are many blessings, but there are also some curses. While there are some exciting spots to read, there are also some dry spots to read. However, the entire word of God is profitable. It can help you live for Him.

How much of the bible have you read or are reading?

How much of the bible are you skipping?

Read the bible today.

I pray today that you will open your heart to God’s word; that you will see the value of God’s word in your life; that God will change your life through His word; and that you will hide God’s word in your heart to share with others.

Joshua 1:9 No Fear Or Discouragement

No Fear

Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go. Joshua 1:9

Facing the unknown or large enemies can be very intimidating for most people. Looking into the darkness of the unknown often brings on fear, because a person does not really know what is ahead. Most people will freeze up and not want to move forward. It is unknown, unfamiliar territory.

Very few people want to face an enemy. The larger and more established the enemy is, the more fear people can have. People do not want to be killed or cut down by the enemy.

Along with the fear, can come discouragement. It can be discouraging to face one enemy after another. It may feel or appear as though the end of the enemies will never come, there will never be any success.

As Joshua began to take over as leader of the Israelites after Moses died, God came to him and told him not to be afraid or discouraged. God would be with Joshua wherever he would go.

Although today most people are not going into physical battles against an enemy to take over some land, there are battles in every believers heart that they must go through. Looking forward in the direction God wants a person to go will often appear dark and unknown. God can lead a person to step out into a new ministry in the enemy’s territory to take back what has been stolen.

It can also be discouraging for a person to go through battle after battle in his walk with God. These can be battles to overcome sin, or to fight for what is God’s. Yet, the person does not need to be fearful or discouraged. God is with him.

As a believer, God is also with you. No matter what they battle you are facing or are led in, Jesus is right there with you. Jesus overcame death, so there is nothing that you can face that He cannot help you overcome.

The battles you will go through will not always be easy or fun, but with God, you will win. Do not give up in discouragement or fear for in the end you will gain eternal life. The world cannot take what it did not give you.

Go forward with God and do not fear or be discouraged…God is with you!

I pray today that you will know God’s presence in your life; that you will allow God to remove all fear; that you will trust God to keep you; and that you will have God’s strength and courage in your life.
