James 1:5 Ask For Wisdom

“If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.” James 1:5

Wisdom is something that everyone likes to see in someone else and think they have themselves. People go to college for years and get their Doctorate degree and think that they are wise. All the schooling did not necessarily make them wise, but it may have made them intelligent. Wisdom is knowing how to properly use that knowledge they have learned.

James brings up asking for wisdom right after talking about enduring many trials. Why would he bring this up now?

When a person is going through a difficult time in their life it is difficult to understand why it is happening. The main question always asked is “why”? Why are the bad things happening? Why does it not seem to end?

All the knowledge in the world does not answer those questions completely. Knowledge may be able to answer a part of those questions, but not fully.

God’s ways are above your ways and His thoughts are above your thoughts. This is where His wisdom comes in. It takes wisdom to understand the grand purpose of suffering. The world will just tell you that it was bad luck or injustice. God will tell you that He is trying to make you more like Jesus.

God is more than willing to give His wisdom to you in generous amounts, if you are willing to ask for it and accept it. God wants you to understand what is happening. This does not mean the gritty details of why right now, but the why you need to trust Him and rest in Him through the suffering. It is knowing that it is for your good in the end.

Do not seek wisdom just to be wise and know-it-all. Seek it to trust God more and be more like Jesus. Seek wisdom to be the helper to others as Jesus was to you and the rest of the world. It was God’s wisdom that brought salvation to you, imagine what it can do for you today.

Ask God for wisdom today.

I pray today that you will trust God in difficult situations; that you will seek God’s wisdom; that you will do what God wants you to do; that you will become more like Jesus everyday; and that you will use God’s wisdom in His way.
