Proverbs 8:35-36 Finding Life Or Death

For those who find me find life and receive favor from the Lord. But those who fail to find me harm themselves; all who hate me love death. Proverbs 8:35-36

Very few people actually seek death. Most people want to live and want to live a full life. They seek to find and do things that are enjoyable and full of life, or appear to be full of life.

Often the seeking of life is sought in doing things or having things. People want to do the latest and greatest thing. They want what everyone else has and is doing.

In the process of seeking life, many throw all caution to the side. They will grab for whatever is available, paying to attention to the cost or dangers involved.

As Solomon talks about seeking and gaining wisdom, he points out the value in finding wisdom. Those who find it gain life and God’s favor. Those who do not find wisdom harm themselves and gain death.

Wisdom is being able to use information or knowledge correctly. It is easy for people to gain knowledge, but often people do not use it correctly. People are very quick to seek knowledge, going to college, searching on Google, watching YouTube videos, but are slow at seeking wisdom with the information that they find.

Believers are often in the same way. They can quote scripture with ease, but don’t always use wisdom in how to apple those scriptures. Many scriptures are often taken out of context or used to harm someone.

Once wisdom is found, one learns how to really live a full life for God and to apply His word to his life. Those who do not find wisdom or refuse to seek for it, will harm themselves and others. They are really in love with death.

Not having wisdom will cause one to make choices that will only lead to sin and death.

You are just like others in having gained some knowledge, knowledge of God and this world. How you use that knowledge is found in wisdom.

Seek to know how to use what information God has allowed you to learn. Use it wisely for His glory and purpose in your life. Gain the life that God wants to give you.

Do not allow yourself to ignore wisdom and make poor choices that bring about death. Seek God and His wisdom and you will find His favor and life.

I pray today that God will fill you with His wisdom; that you will know God’s ways and how to live by them; that you will use what God is giving you correctly; and that you will know life in God.

James 1:5-6 Seeking Wisdom

If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you. But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. James 1:5-6

Wisdom is knowing what to say or do with the knowledge that one has already. People know how to do many different things, but are not always sure of the best way to use that knowledge correctly.

People have sought wisdom for thousands of years in many different ways. There are many people who were philosophers on life and wrote books on how to be wise, some giving some wise wisdom.

Most people, when they become an adult, can think a back to some wise things that their parents had told them. Or they may remember some wise words that another person had told them dealing with some area of their life.

While this wisdom can sound good, it is not always the best and perfect wisdom. James tells the people that if they need wisdom, all they need to do is ask God. God is a loving and generous God and wants to give out His wisdom to those who ask.

His wisdom is perfect, because He is perfect. However, not everyone wants to accept His wisdom, because in the eyes of the world it does not look very good. The believer must ask and not doubt what God shows him, regardless of how crazy it may appear.

There are people who ask God for wisdom, but then reject it when they get it. They doubt that it is really the best wisdom possible. In this way they get tossed around, because they follow the wisdom of this world, and not that of God.

There will be times you will need wisdom in how to deal with a situation in your life. The first thing you must do is go to God and ask for wisdom. Know that God will answer you with the best answer. Then you must believe what God has told you.

Do not allow yourself to doubt the wisdom of God. He is perfect and has been around for all eternity. His is wise above the wisest person on this earth. God loves you and will guide you correctly.

I pray today that you will seek God for all wisdom; that you will trust God’s wisdom for your life; that you will believe all that God says; and that you will act upon God’s word to you.

James 1:5 Ask For Wisdom

“If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.” James 1:5

Wisdom is something that everyone likes to see in someone else and think they have themselves. People go to college for years and get their Doctorate degree and think that they are wise. All the schooling did not necessarily make them wise, but it may have made them intelligent. Wisdom is knowing how to properly use that knowledge they have learned.

James brings up asking for wisdom right after talking about enduring many trials. Why would he bring this up now?

When a person is going through a difficult time in their life it is difficult to understand why it is happening. The main question always asked is “why”? Why are the bad things happening? Why does it not seem to end?

All the knowledge in the world does not answer those questions completely. Knowledge may be able to answer a part of those questions, but not fully.

God’s ways are above your ways and His thoughts are above your thoughts. This is where His wisdom comes in. It takes wisdom to understand the grand purpose of suffering. The world will just tell you that it was bad luck or injustice. God will tell you that He is trying to make you more like Jesus.

God is more than willing to give His wisdom to you in generous amounts, if you are willing to ask for it and accept it. God wants you to understand what is happening. This does not mean the gritty details of why right now, but the why you need to trust Him and rest in Him through the suffering. It is knowing that it is for your good in the end.

Do not seek wisdom just to be wise and know-it-all. Seek it to trust God more and be more like Jesus. Seek wisdom to be the helper to others as Jesus was to you and the rest of the world. It was God’s wisdom that brought salvation to you, imagine what it can do for you today.

Ask God for wisdom today.

I pray today that you will trust God in difficult situations; that you will seek God’s wisdom; that you will do what God wants you to do; that you will become more like Jesus everyday; and that you will use God’s wisdom in His way.
