“I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better.” Ephesians 1:17
Paul is praying that God would give the people of the Ephesian church the Spirit of wisdom and revelation. The purpose of this Spirit is so that they may know God better.
God is outside of man’s ability to know and understand without God revealing Himself. Man can search the entire universe and will never find God unless God reveals Himself. God does reveal Himself to man, but men must have wisdom to understand the revelation.
The world tries to state that God does not exist and that Jesus was just a man. They cannot see the ways God has revealed Himself. Their wisdom is one that comes from the devil, the world.
All of creation reveals God and who He is. Look at the stars in the sky, it shows how large God is. Look at the powerful storms on the earth, it shows how powerful God is. Look at the details of the intricacies of the body, it shows how detailed and complex God is.
These are just a few of the revelations of who God is, but it takes wisdom to know and understand them. The world just sees them as a complex, beautiful world that happened by random chance. A believer sees it and sees the hand of God.
In seeing all of these things, it can give you hope and encouragement. God is large enough and loving enough to take care of you. If God can make this universe the way He did and it works as well as it does, can He not take care of you and your day-to-day problems?
Only by God’s Spirit can you see and know who God is. You need to see Him with your spiritual eyes, not searching with just your physical eyes. God wants to be found and to be known. Accept and you His wisdom and revelation in your life.
I pray today that God will fill you with His Holy Spirit; that God will open your eyes to see Him; that God will fill you with His wisdom; that God will reveal more of Himself to you; and that you will know God in a better and more intimate way.
