Daniel 2:27-28a Not Taking Credit

Standing by a window

Daniel replied, “No wise man, enchanter, magician or diviner can explain to the king the mystery he has asked about, but there is a God in heaven who reveals mysteries. He has shown King Nebuchadnezzar what will happen in days to come. Daniel 2:27-28a

The desire to have the right answer or have the ability to meet the need for others is great in most people. They want to be able to say that they can give what is needed out of their own abilities and strength.

Very few people like to admit that they do not have the right answer or lack the ability to do something. It makes them look weak and incompetent, so they will often make up something to try to meet the need, whether it is right or wrong.

The king had had a dream and wanted someone to tell him what the dream was and what it was about. If no one could do that, he would kill everyone. He was told about Daniel being able to do that. Daniel tells him that only God can give that answer.

In themselves, no believer really has the ability to do anything. Their power, strength and wisdom come from God.

The world will have questions to problems that they do not know how to answer or deal with. They are seeking answers, that only God can give. Some believers will give the answers in their own abilities or give the answer God has, and will take the credit for it, rather than give God the credit.

God has given His Holy Spirit to guide believers and give them wisdom. When a believer speaks, it should be with the wisdom and words of God, and then he needs to let the world know it is God’s word, not his own.

There will be times when someone needs help or guidance.  At these times seek God’s direction for that situation. God will guide you in what to say or do to help that person out. As you do this, do not take the credit for yourself. Give the credit to God for what He has allowed you to do.

Doing this points people towards God and takes the focus off of you. God is the only one who can give the perfect answer each and ever time. Allow God to work through you, but also give Him the credit. Without Him, you can do nothing.

I pray today that you will be filled with God’s Holy Spirit; that you will be guided by God’s Spirit; that you will give God credit for what He does trough you; and that you will allow God to use you to help others.

Ephesians 1:17 Wisdom & Revelation To Know God

I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better. Ephesians 1:17

Wisdom is the ability to make the right choice with the knowledge that one has been given. Some cultures put a very high emphasis on the value of wisdom, while others do not care for it as much.

The wisdom of this world is short-sighted and temporary. It is limited by man’s simple ability to think and see what is immediately in front of him or his through his limited experience and training.

Revelation is a revealing of things that cannot always be directly seen. Very few people don’t want to have some kind of revelation in some area of his life. People pay a lot of money for psychics to reveal something in their lives. People fight to know what is going to happen in the work place or with their local neighbor.

The world’s idea of revelation is selfish and short-sighted. They want to know for their own benefit, how they can get ahead in this life, how they can bypass some bad situation in their life.

Paul stated that he was asking God to give every believer wisdom and revelation, but not for selfish purposes, but to know God better.

God is an infinite God. He is so far advanced above man, that man cannot begin to fully comprehend Him. Without God revealing Himself, no person has the ability to really know Him or even see Him. God is outside of man’s way of thinking and seeing.

Yet, even though God is outside of man’s seeing, He wants to be known and seen. He is willing to reveal Himself in this world and wants to open the spiritual eyes of men to see Him. The believer will see God and know His character through what can be seen by God’s great revelation.

Allow God to open your eyes and see and know Him more. You cannot know enough about God and who He is and how great His love really is.

As you grow in wisdom and revelation of God, you will begin to see His hand at work in the world around you. All fear will be removed and replace with His love. Strive to know God more and more in your life.

I pray today that God will reveal Himself to you; that you will have God’s wisdom in your life; that you will see God at work in and around you; and that you will know God more and more.

1 Corinthians 14:26 Building Up The Church

church building

What then shall we say, brothers and sisters? When you come together, each of you has a hymn, or a word of instruction, a revelation, a tongue or an interpretation. Everything must be done so that the church may be built up. 1 Corinthians 14:26

Jesus came to build His church. It was to be built with people who would follow Him and believe in Him and glorify God. He was looking at the church as a whole, not the individual churches that are seen today.

Each individual, physical church today has a part in building up God’s church. And inside each individual church, every person has a part in building up God’s church. Working together, God’s church will be built up.

Over the years, the ways of building up His church has changed. It is common today to see some churches use many methods to build it up. Paul gave some guidelines in what is needed to build a church up. Hymns, instruction, revelation, tongues, and interpretation are all needed in the process.

While there are many churches that use these methods, there are also many that do not. Some churches do not really preach the word of God, but put on a good entertainment show for the people. Sinful practices are allowed openly in the leaders of the church, while claiming to believe in Jesus. There is no real word of instruction, but it is all about feeling good, not being holy.

Flashing lights, fast songs, and coffee may draw a lot of people to the physical church, but the question is are they being changed to be more like Jesus? Without the word of God being at the center of everything being done, the church is not really being built up.

The things Paul listed are all focused on God and His Word, not on the physical things of this world.

As a believer in Christ, when you go to church, you must focus on building His church up. How are you leading others to walk closer to God? What words can you speak that will point people to God, rather than to this world?

Allow yourself to be led by His Holy Spirit to know the word to speak and the revelation to give someone else. Everything you do in the church is to worship God and build others up, whether you are the pastor or a member.

I pray today that you will know what God wants you to do in the church service; that God will reveal to you how to build His church; that God and His word will be the focus of every physical church; and that His church will be built up.

Romans 8:18 Greater Things To Come

Future Hope

I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us. Romans 8:18

In this life, there is a lot of suffering. It does not matter whether a person is a believer or not, there is suffering. Suffering comes in many different types of forms.

Individuals suffer from sickness, injury, weariness, confusion, being mislead, abuse, physical defects, loss, fear, depression, and much more. Along with directly suffering, many also suffer from seeing others going through suffering.

Suffering is a common place thing in this world. The majority of the world does not know how to deal with suffering. There are many people who turn to different types of drugs, whether legal or illegal. Others will turn to other people for help. Some will seek out death to end the suffering.

When a person is in the middle of suffering, there does not seem to be any hope or an end to it…unless there is something greater to look forward to in the end. There has to be something to hope in and believe in.

Believers are also subject to suffering. Jesus even said that there would be suffering to occur. Yet, as a believer, one has hope, a future to look forward to.

Paul said that with all the sufferings that they are going through as a believer, it does not compare to what is to come.

There is suffering in the life of a believer, because he lives in a fallen world. God also allows suffering to build a person up in Him. It causes a believer to focus on God and what He is doing. It causes  the believer to lean on God and His strength during the time of trouble.

The time of suffering that you may be going through is only temporary. God is working in your life to make you more like Jesus. There is coming a day when He will call you home and you will step into eternity shining bright for the rest of eternity.

While on this earth, you can shine the light and hope of Jesus to the rest of this world that there is a hope beyond the suffering. There is a purpose to go on living. There will be an end to all suffering at some point.

Do not be discouraged in your suffering, but focus on the greater things to come!

I pray today that you will know the hope you can have in Jesus; that you will know the future God has for you; that God’s presence will strengthen you in your suffering; and that you will lean on God during your suffering.
