John 1:4-5 Light and Darkness

“In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.” John 1:4-5

John started out his book with the beginning of everything. He points out that the Word is God and God is the Word. The Word is a person–Jesus. He was the one who created everything that you see. He is also called the light of all mankind.

Children and many adults fear the darkness. Darkness is feared because a person cannot see what is there. There is no light. Without light you cannot see anything.

How many times have you stubbed your foot walking through the house in the middle of the night with no light on? Without light there usually come some type of problem.

Some scientists will state that darkness does not exist. You cannot turn on darkness. All darkness is, is the absence of light. Light can be turned on or off. If you have no light, all that is left is darkness.

Darkness is nothing. It is empty and void and of no value. There is no life in darkness.

The world lives in darkness. They appear to have life, but are really dead. This is a spiritual death.

Jesus was life. He was the One that created all life. He could create life because He was life and light. He existed and is real.

In the verse today, darkness cannot overcome the light. This is because the darkness does not exist and is dead. It has no power. Only the Light can have real power. Jesus is that Light that has power to give life.

Seek the Light of Life. Seek Jesus. Have His light shine in and through your life. Do not turn out the Light by rejecting Jesus and following this world. The world can only give you darkness.

When you have the Light in your life, you will have nothing to fear. There will be no more darkness. Darkness will be defeated.

I pray today that you will know Jesus in your life; that you will fill your life with His light; that you will not fear the darkness; that you will let His light shine in you; and that you will let His light shine in this world around you.
