“However, do not rejoice that the spirits submit to you, but rejoice that your names are written in heaven.” Luke 10:20
The seventy-two that Jesus had sent out to prepare the way and preach the good news had returned. They were excited that the demonic spirits in the people had obeyed them. Jesus tells them not to rejoice in that, but to rejoice in something else.
When things go the way a person does wants, but does not really expect, it is common for that person to get real excited about it. This occurs even more when others submit to the person, when everything shows they will not submit.
Some believers are out on the front lines fighting for changes in the government’s laws. Occasionally, a law is changed into favor for the ways of God. Many believers get excited about that. They are excited that the government had chosen to submit to God’s authority.
Some of the believers will focus on the idea of God having absolute authority over the government and got them to change. Although this is true and good, it should not be the focus.
Jesus had the focus of saving people when He came to the earth. That focus has never changed.
Your first focus should be for the salvation of souls for God. Are there people coming to Jesus? All the rules changed in favor of God does not mean much, if souls are not being saved and lives being changed by God.
The greatest rejoicing a person should be doing is in the fact that they are saved. For you, what better thing could be done by God than saving your soul?
People spend millions of dollars every year to stay alive. They want to live forever. You have that when your name is written in the Book of Life in heaven, and best of all, it is free!
Are you rejoicing in your salvation? Or are you rejoicing in the authority you now have? Or do you just rejoice in the power God has over the world?
Focus, today, on the greatest gift God has ever given you–your salvation and rejoice in that. Rejoice that God has loved you and saved you.
I pray today that you will see the value in the salvation Jesus has given you; that you will focus on the salvation of souls; that you will rejoice in the salvation of souls; that you will rejoice in what God and all heaven rejoices in; and that God will use you to be His witness wherever you are.
