“And he said: Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.” Matthew 18:3
The disciples had asked Jesus who would be the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. He answered that it is the one who is like a child.
The disciples had a view that is like the world’s view, learning what will it take to be seen as the greatest. It was a position to strive for. It was seen as a position determined by what you do or don’t do.
Yet, Jesus has a different view. The greatest is the one most like a little child.
What is a little child like? Children are very simple. They do not make anything complex. It either is or it is not, no middle ground for them. Either they like you or they don’t; trust you or don’t; follow you or don’t; and many other things. Children often have a faith in someone or something that is amazing.
For most people it is difficult to be like a child. People want to be seen as an adult, grown up and mature. Each person must become more mature in Christ as they grow, but there is a part that must remain like a child.
That part is their faith. How many children seriously believe in Santa Clause? Or in a movie/book character? Or in some person?
Little children will often throw themselves at the mercy of a parent with no fear, because of their trust. The parent always seem to be there to catch them, nothing goes wrong; food and clothing will always be there; and protection will be there.
As a believer in Jesus, your faith in God must be the same way. You should have no doubts in God taking care of you. You should never worry about what is going to happen next. God is in control.
Children who worry are usually children of parents who worry. Release yourself to God. Abandon all your thoughts and fears to God. Trust Him like a little child with no fear.
In trusting God this way, you will get into heaven. You must trust Jesus for your salvation. If you are doubting at all, are you really trusting? If God can save you after you die, don’t you think He can save you in your troubles today? Have blind faith in God like a child.
I pray today that God will reveal His loving care to you; that you will have the faith of a child in God; that God will work in and through you; and that God will build you up in His kingdom to be like Jesus more and more.
