“Never again will they hunger, never again will they thirst. The sun will not beat down on them, nor any scorching heat. For the Lamb at the center of the throne will be their shepherd, he will lead them to springs of living water. And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes.” Revelation 7:16-17
As the month of August ends and September begins you are familiar with the hot sun and scorching heat, especially if you live in the south. If you are like me, you do not like that much heat.
The physical heat of the sun can cause a lot of damage. It can burn the skin, kill plants, and cause fires. Depending on where you live, will depend on how much damage the sun causes. The further south you live, the more sun you will get. The more sun means more damage is possible.
In life, you will also have the heat of the temptation to sin and the stress of problems. You are promised that there will be both temptations and problems in your life. These things will beat down on you to try and destroy you.
Keep your focus on Jesus. He knows the power of temptations and the pain of problems. He can give you the strength to overcome in this life. Once He returns and brings you into heaven, there will no longer be any of these temptations and problems. Look forward to that time.
With that heat the grass and trees turn brown, and the ponds and lakes dry up and often water rationing begins in many places. It is difficult to work outside and it brings about a great thirst for more water.
Along with the heat of the season schools are starting up again. Many children are going to school. Many of these same children are going to school with not having been able to eat anything since a little the day before.
Many people and children are hungry with no food to eat. This is not just in third world countries but also here in America.
In these verses you see that in the end there will be no more hunger or thirst. There is two things in this hunger and thirst. First is the physical. No longer will believers be hungry or thirsty for food and water. There will be plenty of food.
With having physical food and water, there is also a spiritual hunger and thirst that will be satisfied. As a believer you should be hungry for more of God’s Word in your life. You should be thirsty for more of His Holy Spirit to fill you.
When you get to heaven you will have God directly with you. You will no longer be hungry and thirsty to have His Word or His Holy Spirit. You will be satisfied in your spirit.
The whole reason for this is because Jesus will be at the center of the throne leading you to springs of living water. It is the water that provides true life. The food and water you have today will only leave you wanting for more later. God’s food and water sustains for all eternity.
Today you will have hunger and thirst. You will have struggles and troubles. Some day all those problems will be gone. It will be worth it all to follow Jesus today and everyday. The end will be far greater than anything good that can come today. The good things today are only temporary, in heaven they will be for eternity.
I pray that today God will strengthen you to stay true to Him; that you will hunger and thirst only for more of God’s Word and His Holy Spirit; that you will allow God to be your shepherd; and that you will know the future you will have some day in Jesus.
