Revelation 7:16 No More Hunger Or Thirst

Hunger and thirst

Never again will they hunger; never again will they thirst. The sun will not beat down on them, nor any scorching heat. Revelation 7:16

Hunger and thirst is something that is common with people around the world. There is not a country that does not have some people who go to bed each night with no food to eat or water to drink.

In some areas, there are extreme droughts that cause water to be an extremely rare thing to be able to have. With the drought, also comes a lack of food.

In every nation, there are people who are homeless and unable to get food to eat. Along with no food, they do not have any shelter to protect them from the heat or cold.

Along with the physical hunger, there is a spiritual hunger for more. People want more to this life. They seek to have or do more in order to fill those hungers. The majority turn to sinful ways to seek fulfillment and satisfaction in their lives.

The person who has turned away from sin and turned to Jesus have been purified from their sin. This changes their hunger and thirst. Now they hunger and thirst for more of God. As they do this, the heat of this world and sin bears down on them. They are homeless, in that they are not in the home God has built for them. The trials and tribulations of this world still torment them.

There will come a day when they will be removed from this world. At that point, there will be no more hunger or thirst, both physically and spiritually. They will be satisfied with physical food and the presence of God for all eternity. God will be their protection and heaven will be their home.

You may or may not be in a position of physical hunger and thirst, but your heart should hunger and thirst for more of God. You should have a desire to have more of God’s presence in your life each day.

During your life on this earth, there will be struggles and temptations. You will go through times of hunger and thirst, wondering where God is. The world will appear to be winning the battle.

Stay strong and true to God. Keep yourself cleansed from all sin by the power of Jesus. One day you will be removed from this world and will no longer hunger or thirst for God.

I pray today that you will know Jesus as your Savior; that your heart will hunger and thirst for more of God; that you will find satisfaction in Jesus; and that you will endure until God removes you from this earth.

Isaiah 55:1-2 Eat And Drink The Best

“Come, all you who are thirsty, come to the waters; and you who have no money, come, buy and eat! Come buy wine and milk without money and without cost. Why spend money on what is not bread, and your labor on what does not satisfy?” Isaiah 55:1-2

Being hungry and thirsty is something that every person has to deal with, some more than others. At times one will be more thirsty, in the hot summer time in the south, while at other times one may be more hungry. Most people can satisfy their physical hunger and thirst without too much problem, but both will return very soon.

However, there is another hunger and thirst that many people have that is much harder to be satisfied. It is hunger for meaning and satisfaction in life. Some people are always seeking a bigger, better thrill in life to keep them moving forward. Many turn to drugs and alcohol to be satisfied. Others may seek better jobs and positions, or maybe seeking peace, quiet and solitude to find meaning.

While all of these things can satisfy for a short time, they will not sustain a person in the long haul of life. Each of these things are temporary and wear off. After a time, the thrill of one thing will not be enough and more will be sought out.

God is calling people to take what He is giving to be satisfied. The life that Jesus is offering does not cost in the manner of money or hard labor. All it costs is accepting and giving your life to Him. In return you gain eternal life, peace, and satisfaction regardless of what is going on in your life or in this world.

In order to eat and drink what God is offering, you must get into His Word, the Bible. Read it and get to know who God is and what He has for you. Then step out in trust and do what His word says.

As you do these things, you will find satisfaction that will stay with you and not end in a few hours. As you continue to live for God, you will find purpose and meaning for your life that will satisfy better than anything this world has to offer.

Don’t labor for what does not satisfy, try God.

I pray today that you will know God; that you will hunger for His Word; that you will be satisfied with God alone in your life; that you will find purpose in serving God; and that God will meet all of your needs.

Proverbs 25:21-22 How To Treat Your Enemy

If your enemy is hungry, give him food to eat; if he is thirsty, give him water to drink. In doing this, you will heap burning coals on his head, and the LORD will reward you. Proverbs 25:21-22

It is commonly thought that when an enemy does something wrong, the first thing that should be done is to strike back and make the enemy pay for the wrong that was done. The striking back is seen as a punishment. It can be just words, or a physical strike, or some other correction. Today many will take someone to court and get them put in jail or made to pay a fine or some law suit. Eye for eye, tooth for tooth is the mentality of many people.

The idea of the “punishment” is to make the person hurt a little for what he did. Causing pain in some way, is supposed to detour the person from ever doing it again. In this process of punishing the wrong-doers, prisons have been filled to overflowing with those who have done wrong, wars have been waged between nations or groups of people, and millions of innocent people have been hurt.

God has a different plan on how to deal with the enemy. Since you are not God, you do not have the full right to punish the enemy. You are to be like Jesus. He fed the enemy and gave the enemy water to drink. Do you think that every person who ate in the group of 5,000, fully loved and followed Him for who He was? Most likely not.

Solomon says treating an enemy with food and water will heap burning coals on his head. When shown the true love and mercy of God, the person doing wrong will feel the pressure to change. He will realize the wrong that he has been doing.

As a believer, you are to be set apart from the world. You are to be different from the world. The world wants revenge, you must show love and mercy.

When someone has done something wrong to you, the best thing you can do is meet their needs the best way you can. Since their needs were not being met, maybe that is why they treated you wrong.

When you do these kind things, God will see and reward you. His reward will be greater than any person on this earth could give you.

How are you treating your enemies today?

I pray today that you will be filled with God’s love for all; that God will strengthen you to do right to your enemy; and that God will reward you for your love and mercy on others.

Job 23:12 Better Than Food

I have not departed from the command of his lips; I have treasured the words of his mouth more than my daily bread. Job 23:12

As Job is going through a lot of suffering, he does not understand why it is happening. He is willing to state his case before God of his innocence of any wrong doing. In his heart, Job knows that he follows all of God’s commands. He desires God’s Word more than food.

Eating food is something most people like to do. Many will even eat much more than they need too, because they love eating the food so much.

Look at the many different restaurants that have all you can eat buffets. Those places are constantly filled with people stuffing themselves. There are restaurants that are now open twenty-four hours a day, because there is always someone ready to eat something around the clock.

What people desire to eat is different for each person. Some like junk food, such as chips and candy. Others love fast food. Others just like deserts. While others attempt to eat healthy meals, just a lot. The desire to eat is great.

While the need to eat food is important, the need to eat of God’s Word is more important. Job knew the value of God’s Word in his life. He desired to have His Word more than the food that is only here today and gone tomorrow.

Jesus told the disciples that His food is to do the will of the Father. The will of the Father (God) is doing what He says to do, following His Word.

Most believers do not even read the Bible at all, except on Sunday when in church. They do not study or memorize any verses from day-to-day. They do not have a hunger for God’s Word. They do not treasure the greatest book in all of creation.

You need to ask God to give you a desire to know His Word and to apply it to your life. As you read the Bible more and  more, you will also learn to love it and desire it more and more. You will not want to go one day without feeding on His Word.

What do you treasure more?

Food?

Or God’s Word?

I pray today that you will have a desire to know God’s Word; that you will read the Bible daily; that you will apply God’s Words to your life; and that you will be willing to forsake all else for knowing His Word for your life.

Luke 9:13 Give Them Food

“He replied, You give them something to eat. They answered, We have only five loaves of bread and two fish–unless we go and buy food for all this crowd.” Luke 9:13

Jesus had been teaching about five thousand men in a remote countryside area. It was getting late and the people needed to eat. The disciples suggested sending the people home, but Jesus told them to give the people something to eat.

In this story, Jesus miraculously provided enough food for all the people with only five loaves of bread and two fish. Everyone was able to eat until they were full, and then there was some food still leftover.

Today, God may allow you the opportunity to feed some or many people with a miracle of provision. Later Jesus stated that you are to feed the poor. This was with physical food.

There is also another food that every believer can provide every person with an unlimited supply. That food is the Word of God and God Himself.

The Word of God is food to feed the empty soul of a person.

Every person is hungry for something. They try to fill their lives with things that they expect to meet that hunger need. Very often it is material things: better cars, bigger homes, larger paycheck, more fame, and much more.

Although all these things can be good, they do not really fill a person up. These things are like eating a snack of some junk food–they taste good, but don’t really satisfy in the end.

Jesus had once told the disciples that His food was doing the will of God. People in the world need to hear the Word of God and get to know who God is in order to be able to do the will of God.

Once a person does the will of God, they will be satisfied in a way nothing on this earth can ever satisfy.

Be sure that you are eating the correct food–the Words and will of God. Then, find ways to feed everyone else the food that satisfies for all eternity. Give the people you meet the Word of God. Introduce them to the Bread of Life-Jesus. Let them eat and never hunger again.

I pray today that God will reveal His Word to you; that you will fill up on the Word of God; that you will pass on the Word of God to others; that you will be satisfied with God’s Word; and that God will build His kingdom through you.

Matthew 5:6 Right Hunger & Thirst

“Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.” Matthew 5:6

Everyday people get hungry for food or thirsty for water. Most people are able to get something to eat and drink to satisfy them. The desire for food and water is a natural part of the human body. It is the way God created people.

Food brings the necessary nutrition that the body needs to survive and grow. Water brings about the needed cleansing to clean out impurities from the body.

Jesus now speaks of a different type of hunger and thirst. It is one for righteousness. Righteousness is being and doing the right things in the eyes of God.

Many people in the world understand the need for righteous or right living. Everywhere you go you will see religions with many rules on how to live right. People go through many different types of rituals to be right before God. Often they are trying to earn the right to get into heaven.

God stated that our righteousness is garbage. It is worthless.

There is only one way to be righteous, that is in Jesus Christ. You must cloth yourself with the righteousness of Jesus.

Hungering for righteousness is hunger for more of Jesus and His Words. It is devouring His Words and making them a part of your life. Act upon what you have read and heard.

Thirsting for righteousness is the desire to drink of the blood of Jesus. It is only by the blood of Jesus that you can be cleansed of all sin and impurities in your life.

God wants you to be righteous. He created you to be righteous. Adam and Eve were originally made perfectly righteous before God. They chose, just as everyone today does, to not be righteous before God against God’s desire.

God is more than willing to make you righteous if you desire. He will fill you with righteousness if you seek Him.

Today make it your desire to be hungry and thirsty for the righteousness of Jesus. Read God’s Word and devour it. God will fill you up. In this Jesus says you are blessed.

I pray today that you will be hungry and thirsty for the righteousness of Jesus; that God will fill you up; that you will not be hungry for what does not fill you; that God will put you in righteous standing before Him; and that you will allow God to work in you to make you more like Jesus everyday.
