Hebrews 4:16 Approaching God

“Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.” Hebrews 4:16

The author of Hebrews just finished pointing out that God wants us to enter into His rest and that Jesus has gone through everything we could ever go through without sinning. God fully understands what we are going through and is more than willing to help us get through it. God is full of grace. He did not have to send Jesus to save us. God could have let us die in our sins. It was us who did wrong, not God. Yet He loved us enough to provide for our salvation. This salvation is part of His grace He has for us–an unmerited, undeserved favor.

Today we can now go up to God on His throne with confidence that He is there to help us and not there to destroy us. Many people see God as being a dictator out to destroy anyone who does any wrong. It is true that God will destroy everyone who does wrong AND does not come to Him for forgiveness. But God does not desire that; He wants to save us. If we approach Him, He will not turn us away, but will have mercy and guide and help us as we need.

This is like a little child who comes to his parent for help. A good parent will not turn him away or get angry but will help his child. A person at work may go to his boss at work with a problem. The good boss will guide and direct him. In these same ways God will help us and His direction will be perfect for all of our needs.

I pray today that you will have the confidence to go before God with all of your needs; that you will know that God is there to help you and not destroy you; and that God will reveal to you His mercy and grace He has for you.
