“Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account.” Hebrews 4:13
Right before reading this the author talks about how God’s Word penetrates everything. Now he points out that nothing is hidden from God’s sight. This can be something that disturbs some people. At the same time this can be encouraging to some people.
In America, around the world, people treasure their privacy. No one enjoys when everyone knows everything about them. There is a constant battle with the government as to how much they should be allowed to know about an individual. Many people go to great lengths to cover up their actions. Often we see in the news about someone in a significant position who did something immoral or illegal and it was found out. We hear about a person who for 10 years was embezzling money from a company or a charity. People often state that what happens behind closed doors should stay there.
Here the author tells us that God sees everything. He sees the person who cheated on his taxes; who stole $5 from his employer; who had an affair; who gossiped on the phone; who was speeding down the road; and everything else. No one can hide anything from God. Other people may not see it, but God always does and He will hold you accountable for your action or inaction.
There is also good in knowing that God sees everything. First, you will know that He sees your situation you are in. He sees it and is in control. He also sees the good things you are doing for His kingdom and will reward you for it. Second, knowing that God sees everything will give you strength to turn away from sinful acts and temptations. If God were physically standing next to you, most likely you would refrain from doing many things that you do. This will draw you closer to Him and make you more like Jesus.
I pray that today God will help you in knowing how much He sees and knows you; that God will strengthen and encourage you by this knowledge; that God will open your eyes to seeing Him everywhere you go; and that God will give you His peace in knowing He is watching over you to care for you.
