Woe to those who go down to Egypt for help, who rely on horses, who trust in the multitude of their chariots and in the great strength of their horsemen, but do not look to the Holy One of Israel, or seek help from the LORD. Isaiah 31:1
Every person needs help at different times in their life. Finding the needed help is not always the easiest thing to do. People look for someone who is able to help them in the best way possible. The Israelites were looking to Egypt for help.
When a person has a vehicle break down, finding a mechanic that is affordable, reliable, and quick at doing the repairs is difficult. Often the person will ask others for references or they will just search the internet and read the reviews of various mechanics. Once a mechanic is found, the trust of the vehicle is put into that mechanic.
Along with finding help with vehicles, many people seek out assistance in many other ways. Searching for a job, provision of money, provision for a vacation, health care, healing, and the list goes on.
There is nothing wrong with seeking help from others, the problem comes in when total trust is put in the others first. Most people rely on others in this world for everything. They trust their large paying jobs, big bank accounts, personal influence, influence of others, the doctors, counselors, and psychiatrists.
The one that may people do not immediately go to for help and rely on first is God. Many believers go to other people first, before stopping and praying about the situation with God.
When a situation comes up in your life, where you need help, the best thing you can do is immediately stop and go to God for help. Ask Him for assistance. He can guide you to the right person for help or He can supernaturally take care of the situation Himself.
Who has a better chance at helping you: God–who is in absolute control and made everything? Or the people and things of this world–that are all temporary and can fail?
Do not go down to Egypt for help. Seek out the One who can really help you. Seek out God first in your life for every situation, whether large or small. He can and will help you.
I pray today that you will know God’s heart towards you; that you will trust God’s help and provision for your life; that you will seek out God first in your life for everything; and that you will trust in God for everything in your life.
I lift up my eyes to you, to you who sit enthroned in heaven. Psalm 123:1
As a person goes through life, he usually has some people he looks up to. These are people who have meant something special in his life. Usually they have done something above and beyond that impacted his life in some great way or another.
The people looked up to may be parents, a teacher, a co-worker, a close friend, a pastor, a mentor, and the list can go on. The world often tries to look up to those who are popular and in the limelight. Many different movie, television, music, and sports stars are looked up to by many people. They are often seen as the perfect example of what one wants to be like.
Although people may have good traits to desire and look up to, they are still human and have faults.
The psalmist, in this verse, says that he looks up to the one enthroned in heaven. God is the one who is enthroned in heaven.
Since God is the one who is enthroned in heaven, He is the one who is above all and in control. It is the king who sits on the throne. It is the king who has the final word of control in any and every situation. He has absolute power.
How can this help you today?
Knowing that God is on the throne, helps you to know that no matter how the situation looks, He is still in control.
Later in this psalm, it is written that they will look to God until He shows His mercy on them. You, too, are to look to God until He shows His mercy on you.
Those in the world can guide you and help you to a point, but all of their work will only be for temporary goals and many may fall short. God’s work is for eternity and will never fail.
Keep your eyes focused on God and allow Him to guide you through the perils and challenges of this life. His goal is to make you more like Jesus everyday and to bring you into heaven to be with Him for eternity. It is not just a temporary fix for a few days, it is an eternal fix. Look up to God today.
I pray today that you will keep your eyes on Jesus; that you will trust God to guide you; that you will know the mercy of God in your life; and that you will know Jesus is the King.
Unless the LORD had given me help, I would soon have dwelt in the silence of death. When I said, “My foot is slipping,” your unfailing love, LORD supported me. Psalm 94:17-18
Buildings are made with a support structure to keep it standing. Each board helps support another board, while at the same time being supported by another board. The nails and screws hold each one in place.
In businesses, there must also be a support structure. The workers must do their work correctly in order to support the head boss. Without the head boss, the workers would not have a job. Along with that support, the head boss must support his workers, because without them, he, also, would not have job.
With both of these illustrations about support, both are temporary. Both can fail or make the wrong move. Failure can happen.
God is the perfect example of perfect love. His perfect love wants the best in a person. His perfect love calls for the best path for each person.
When God set the rules back in the garden of Eden, He knew that man would eventually break those rules. He had a plan already in place to send Jesus to take man’s place in death and bring him life. The plan He had was filled with His love and grace. No man deserved that love or grace.
When you mess up and slip into sin, the judgement should be death. Yet, God’s great love is so filled with grace and mercy, that He provides a way out. God’s love supports you and lifts you back up out of that sin.
All you have to do is recognize and accept God’s love and grace in your life. Realize that you cannot do this on your own. You cannot live without sin in your life on your own. Once you have sinned, that sin is there for eternity, unless you allow Jesus to remove it and support you.
God is not out to kill or destroy you, as many often feel. He is out to give you life and life abundantly.
Do you recognize God’s love and support?
Give God praise for what He is doing in your life and the support He is giving you.
I pray today that you will know God’s love in your life; that you will know God’s support for you; that you will not fear God; and that you will live for God.
