2 Corinthians 5:9 What Is Your Goal?

So we make it our goal to please him, whether we are at home in the body or away from it. 2 Corinthians 5:9

Paul had been talking about the physical body as being temporary. There will come a time when it will be destroyed, but God will give a new better body that will last for eternity. In this way a person it to live by faith in what God said He would do. In the process of living by faith, a person must make it the goal of his life to please God, regardless of where they are.

Pleasing another person is not something uncommon. Some people in the workplace work to please the boss, doing whatever it takes to please him. Children who adore their dad will often do what it takes to please him. A boy who loves a girl will do what it takes to please her in order to win her heart over to him.

Often the reason for pleasing another person is a selfish reason. It is to gain something for self, rather than to help the other person out. In the workplace this is seen when a person is striving to get a promotion, rather than just doing his job.

Believers should have the goal to please God. No one has to work to please God to get something, God has already given it or promised it. God has already given the believer everything needed, before the work to please God was ever started. God has promised a new body and an eternal life with Him to every believer. For these reasons alone there is more than enough reason to want to please God.

The ways to please God is to live for Jesus and obey all of His commands. All of those commands are summed up in loving God and loving others. When a person is doing those two things, God is pleased.

Take a look at your life and ask yourself what is your goal. Who are you trying to please?

Pleasing another person may be acceptable, but it is only temporary. Pleasing God is something that is eternal and reaps eternal benefits.

There will always be a new opportunity to please God with what you do and say in this life. Seek to please Him as you live by faith knowing that God has a reward of eternal life for you in the end.

I pray today that you will know Jesus as your Savior; that you will know what pleases God; that you will live by faith in God; and that you will strive to please God in all that you say and do.

Romans 1:8 What Is Being Reported?

Faith In God

First, I thank my God through Jesus Christ for all of you, because your faith is being reported all over the world. Romans 1:8

Right after Paul opens his letter to the Romans, he says that he thanks God for them. Wherever he is going, he is hearing good reports about the church in Rome. They were being reported as being full of faith in God.

People love to talk about other people. No matter who a person is, there is usually someone who will talk about that person. The thing that people talk about is what makes the person different or what that person is doing that is out of the ordinary.

At times there is big news about a person who helps the poor out or gives out millions of dollars to a charity. While this does happen, it is not a common piece of news to hear about.

What is more common is hearing about what a person is doing wrong. When a celebrity gets in trouble or does something wrong, it is big news. When a politician makes an unwelcome decision, it is big news. When a co-worker or neighbor is in trouble, it is big news.

While it may not make headline news, each person is talked about by someone else a lot. People in the church will talk about others in the church–how a person is living for God or not living for God.

The real question comes down to what are people saying about an individual. Are they talking more about something good or something negative?

The best thing that people can talk about, when talking about a believer, is how much faith he has in God. This shows the world how much a person is really believing in God. It puts reality to his words, if he is living a life of faith in God. It is different and people will talk.

When other people see you, what do they see? Whatever they see is what they will talk about. They will report what they are seeing in your life and actions. Your words and actions must match up.

A person who has faith in God will stand out as very different in this world, even inside the church, thus people will talk and spread the report.

Can people report that they see you have faith in God?

Or are you just like everyone else?

I pray today that you will have faith in God; that you will live a life of faith in God; that the world will report of your faith in God; and that many will know of Jesus because of you.

Mark 11:22 Have Faith In God

“Have faith in God,” Jesus answered. Mark 11:22

Jesus and the disciples had been walking along one day and He saw a fig tree that was not producing fruit. Jesus cursed the tree saying it will never bud again. The following day, they saw the tree all withered up and dead and the disciples were amazed at it. Jesus told them that they needed to have faith in God and the power of prayer.

A lot of people claim to believe in God. They do believe that He does exist and is out there somewhere. However, many of those same people do not believe that God is really concerned with them or even that He is the only God. They do not believe that everything the Bible says is true for them.

People wonder why God would be concerned with them or even care for them at all. They look at their own lives and see it as insignificant or that they do not need God in their lives.

Often when people pray, they do not really believe God will answer them. It is believed that God is busy or does not really care about them. Or they remember past sins and think that God is holding those sins against them.

Throughout the Bible there are many promises of God to people. God promised that He would never leave or forsake a believer. He promised that He would meet all your needs. He promised that He would forgive you of all your sins. God promised that He would hear your prayers. He promised that He would answer all of your prayers. These promises can be claimed by everyone who has faith in Him today.

Jesus goes on in this passage to talk about being able to have a mountain moved out of the way if one has faith in God.

This faith is knowing that God’s promises are true and that God is faithful and will do what He promised.

You may have mountains in your pathway that need to be removed. You may have things that hinder your growth and need to be removed. Have faith in God and believe that what He says is true. Then obey Him and watch Him do miracles in your life and meet all of your needs.

Have the same faith that Jesus did. God will work through you if you have faith in Him.

I pray today that you will know the promises of God; that you will have faith in God; that God will show Himself faithful to you; and that you will obey God in every area of your life.

Mark 9:16 What Are You Arguing About?

Ocean Beach.jpg

“What are you arguing with them about?” he asked. Mark 9:16

A man had brought his demon possessed son to the disciples to have the spirit removed. The disciples were unable to remove the demon and so the teachers of the law were arguing with them about it. Each group had their own idea of how to cast the demon out. Jesus asked what they were arguing about.

Arguments are a common thing to see, no matter where a person looks. There are arguments as to how a play was made, or not made in a sport. Arguments about who should be the next politician, about how a politician is doing, about what is the best movie, or who the best actor is. Arguments about what rights should or should not be allowed. Arguments about what is freedom. And the list goes on forever.

Arguments even occur within the church. Many dispute what the best doctrine is, or how to be saved, or when to be baptized, or the place of tongues in the church.

The disciples and the teachers of the law were arguing about the best way to get the demon spirit removed from the boy. Yet, the best way was completely overlooked. The best way is by faith, by belief in Jesus and in God.

People love to make things more complicated than what they really are. They cannot see the simplicity of the gospel message and that God loves them and wants to save them at all costs.

Individuals will even argue with God about the best way to meet a need or about a path that one must walk. There is a lack of belief in God.

There may be times you have been in an argument with another believer or even God Himself. You did not agree with what was going on and felt you knew better.

Get yourself into God’s Word and see what God has to say about the situation. Seek God in prayer to help you understand what is going on and the best path to take.

Seek to find common ground with others, rather than just argue for your point of view.

God is a God of love and unity, not division. The only thing God wants you to be divided against is sin. Don’t waste time arguing on points that really do not matter. Believe in God and trust Him.

I pray today that you will know what God wants; that you will not waste words arguing with others; that you will speak the words of God; and that you will have a belief and trust in God.
