Isaiah 13:9 See What Is Coming

wildfire destruction

See, the day of the Lord is coming–a cruel day, with wrath and fierce anger–to make the land desolate and destroy the sinners within it. Isaiah 13:9

Danger can sometimes be seen coming. People can often see signs that something bad is about to happen. Very often meteorologists can predict a hurricane or some other bad storm coming up. They give warning to the people that it will be bad and destructive.

When this occurs, many people will take steps to protect themselves from the danger coming. Others will ignore it and take their chances.

In the end sometimes the meteorologists is wrong and nothing major occurs. Other times the disaster hits and many people are harmed because of the great destruction caused and refusing to not heed the warnings.

Isaiah had a prophecy against Babylon about God’s wrath getting ready to come upon them. It would be a day of destruction and all sinners would be destroyed.

Babylon was later destroyed by God, but His day of wrath is still yet to come upon the rest of the world. Although it appears as if the world is getting away with sinning, there will come a day of judgement. Every sinner will have to pay a price, and that price is death and destruction.

God is patient in waiting for that day of destruction to come because He wants everyone to be saved. He does not really want to destroy everyone, but will if they refuse to follow Jesus.

What does this mean to the believer? It means that he must be willing to go out and be His witness to this world. He needs to tell every unbeliever about Jesus and compel them to follow Him.

Too often believers just condemn the unbeliever or ignore them. There is coming destruction, so this must not happen. God is a God of love and so every believer should love those who are lost and headed for destruction.

As a believer, you also must be willing to share the gospel message with everyone. Open your spiritual eyes and see the destruction that is coming. God’s day of wrath is still yet to come upon this earth.

Allow yourself to see every person as loved by God, yet about to be destroyed because they do not know the truth. Go out and tell them about Jesus and what is about to happen. Every day is getting closer to destruction and death. Don’t waste a minute.

I pray today that you will know Jesus as your Savior; that you will see people with God’s eyes of love; that God will reveal to you the destruction that is coming; and that you will be His witness to this world about Jesus.

Zephaniah 2:3 Seek The Lord

Seek the LORD, all you humble of the land, you who do what he commands. Seek righteousness, seek humility; perhaps you will be sheltered on the day of the LORD’s anger. Zephaniah 2:3

Zephaniah is encouraging any person who is humble and does what He commands to seek the Lord. They are to seek righteousness and humility, praying for God’s protection as He pours out His wrath upon the land and people. At this point, Zephaniah does not know if God will shelter them from His anger, it is only a hope that He will.

Even though thousands of years have passed, things have not changed. Nations, as a whole, have chosen to walk away from God. They have chosen to follow after false gods, rejecting God and doing their own thing. This is building up God’s judgment and anger against them.

There is coming a day when Jesus will return. In that return, two things will happen: one is that He will pour out His judgment upon the earth. The other is that He will take all His people with Him.

Every person is sinful and cannot save himself, he is in need of a savior. One must humble Himself and seek God. God has revealed this Savior in Jesus. Every believer must keep their eyes on Jesus and seek His righteousness. As one seeks His righteousness, he is being humble, acknowledging that he cannot save himself.

Unlike when Zephaniah was speaking, you can know that God will save you. You may or may not be saved from physical danger in this life, but you can know that you will be saved from eternal condemnation. You will be sheltered from the day of God’s wrath upon all sin, if you are trusting in the Lord Jesus Christ for your salvation.

In order to trust in Jesus, you must be humble and seeking His righteousness, not your own. You must be willing to do what He commands at all times. Outside of Jesus, you will fail and will have a reason to fear God’s anger.

You can know the salvation that He provides for you. You can live without fear. Seek Him today while He may be found, while there is still time. Know the love and salvation that God has for you today.

I pray today that you will know Jesus as your Savior; that you will not fear the judgment of God; that you will seek the righteousness of Jesus; and that you will remain humble before God.

Joel 3:14 The Valley Of Decision

Multitudes, multitudes in the valley of decision! For the day of the LORD is near in the valley of decision. Joel 3:14

Joel is telling the people that God is getting ready to pour out judgment against the nations. The nations that crushed Israel will have to pay for their sins. The destruction of the nations will be great and it will be a time of great turmoil. Many will be in a place of making  decision. They will have to choose who they will follow–God or some idol.

Every day people have to make decisions. Billions of decisions are made daily in every nation around the world. Some decisions are made after a lot of careful thinking, while others are made by instinct or experience, using very little thought.

When a person walks into a dark room at night, it takes very little to decide to turn on the light in order to see. As a person drives down the road, it takes very little to decide to stay on his own side of the road.

Other decision such as what to wear to work, planning a meal for the family, which movie to go watch, and what to do on a day off from work take a little more thought in making the decision.

More challenging decisions that require a lot of thought and planning are some such as choosing whether to move or not, which job to accept to work at, how much money can be spent and how much should be saved, and whether to get married to someone or not.

Life is full of decisions. One that every person must make is whether to follow Jesus or not in their life. Right now, for many, that does not seem to be an important, pressing choice to make. However, the day of the Lord is near and it needs to be made.

You do not know if you have tomorrow, or even the next second to live. You have to make the choice now as to whether you will follow Jesus or not. As you go through your day, you will be offered choices to sin against God or to follow Him. Only you can make that choice. And that choice has to be made over and over again and again.

You are in a valley of decision.

What are you going to decide today? Follow or reject?

I pray today that you will make the choice to follow Jesus; that you will choose to turn from all sin; that you will choose to be a witness for Jesus; and that you will decide to build the kingdom of God.
