Isaiah 14:3 Coming Rest

It shall come to pass in the day the Lord gives you rest from your sorrow, and from your fear and the hard bondage in which you were made to serve, Isaiah 14:3

Each day of the week, while one is at work, most people are looking forward towards their day off. They are looking forward to a day of rest from all of the hard work and toil of the job. This is something a person can see in their immediate future. On a larger scale, people are desiring, but not often seeing, a permanent rest in retirement from their bondage to work.

Isaiah states that while they are in captivity in Babylon, there will come a day in which God will give them rest from the sorrow, fears and bondage.

The world is looking forward to just a few days or a few years of rest in the weekend or retirement. Struggles from day to day wear a person down and bring down their spirits and hope for better days. Talk of harder times and changing climate brings on fear and struggle.

Although the world does not recognize it, nearly every person is in bondage and captivity. This bondage and captivity is bondage to sin. People are unable, in and of themselves, to break free from sin and death that is coming. Looking around the world, there is no real, true hope by the world’s ways of working.

People who have chosen to repent of sin and believe in the saving work of Jesus upon the cross are being given the hope of a coming rest from their sorrows. They are no longer in bondage to sin and death, but have the hope of eternal life and given the strength to overcome sin.

One day Jesus will return and take all believers into heaven for eternal rest from the bondage of this world and sin.

There are probably days in which you feel the weight of bondage to sin or the sorrows and pain of this fallen world. It may feel as if it will never come to an end. Put your hope in Jesus and wait for His promised return to put an end to all sin, suffering and death for eternity. That day may be today, tomorrow or some far off future day, but it is coming. Your day of rest will come if you keep your trust in God and obey Him with all of your heart, soul, mind and strength.

Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that you will put your trust in Jesus; that you will know the rest God has for you; that God will break the bondage of sin in your life; and that you will look forward to the future rest in heaven with God.
