For we know, brothers and sisters loved by God, that he has chosen you, 1 Thessalonians 1:4
Being chosen, especially by someone important, is something many people desire. There are a lot of people who can remember times when they were in school and were not chosen. The students would play some sport with two team captains, and that person was always the last one chosen. Pain would run deep and usually for a lifetime of bad memory.
Although it is most common to hear about not being chosen in children, adults have the same problem. A hard working person is overlooked for a promotion, or a person’s work is ignored or rejected. People do not like to not be chosen.
When a person is in a high profile meeting, he gets excited when he is chosen to be able to speak to the highest level person. He gets excited when he is approached by the leader.
The thing that excites each person is different, but each person has a desire to be chosen and recognized. It shows care, concern, friendship, and value.
Being chosen in this world is a good thing, however, there is one who has chosen people that makes it the ultimate, highest in value. God has chosen people of this earth to be a part of His family, to be His child. The value of this is infinitely high!
Not every believer in Jesus fully realizes what has happened to him. Yes, it could be very awesome to be chosen by the president or leader of a nation, however, God is much greater. God is the One who created the earth and everything in it. He is the One who has the ultimate power and authority over all created things. And He has chosen each person to be His child.
God has chosen you to be His child. You may not be a person who has been chosen by people on this earth as of any value, yet, God has chosen you. He has deemed you of such high value, that He allowed His Son Jesus to be killed so that you may have life and life for all eternity.
God’s love is greater than any person on this earth could ever show you. His authority and power is above any position on this earth. Knowing this, praise God because He has chosen you!
I pray today that you will know the love God has for you; that you will know that you are chosen by God; that you will know how much God values you; and that you will share that love and value with others.
“Here is my servant whom I have chosen, the one I love, in whom I delight; I will put my Spirit on him, and he will proclaim justice to the nations. He will not quarrel or cry out; no one will hear his voice in the streets.” Matthew 12:18-19
Some of the leadership of Israel were getting upset with what Jesus was teaching and saying. He did not fight back at all. In fact, He left the area and went somewhere else. This was to fulfill a prophecy by Isaiah stating that He was chosen. Jesus had God’s Spirit upon Him and He would proclaim justice, yet not quarrel or cry out in the streets.
People are very quick to cry out abuse or some other crime when they are persecuted for being a believer. When a person loses a job because of his open belief in Jesus, many will call for a lawyer and try to fight back. They cry out in anger and vengeance against the world.
All over the nation people are rising up in anger against some types of sinful practices being promoted in the nation. They are making their voice be heard, but it is not always done in love. It is being shown in hate and anger.
Acting this way is not the way Jesus reacted to the people against Him. His trust was in the Father, not self strength or the government.
Many believers forget that the world will act like the world, like Satan. They are living in sin and do not know any better. Believers, however, are living in a different realm. They are in the realm of God and His love. There is supposed to be forgiveness and compassion.
Looking at a non-believer living the way he does should bring tears to the eyes of every believer. That person does not know the way to truly live life. He does not know the joy God can bring him.
When the world is against you or you see the world not living for God, do not show anger. Show His love and compassion. Actions will speak louder than words. Jesus did not cry out when they pounded the nails into His hands. His love is what will draw all men unto Him.
Don’t quarrel and cry, but show love and compassion. The world will see it and want it in the end.
I pray today that you will be filled with God’s love for people; that you will not fight the world that is against God; that God will guide the words you speak; and that you will be His witness in this world.
” ‘On that day,’ declares the LORD Almighty, ‘I will take you, my servant Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel,’ declares the LORD, ‘and I will make you like my signet ring, for I have chosen you,’ declares the LORD Almighty.” Haggai 2:23
Zerubbabel was the governor of Judah and was to lead the people in rebuilding the temple and the nation. God tells him not to be afraid and that He would be with him. He would be made like God’s signet ring as God proceeds to overthrow other kingdoms and their armies. Zerubbabel was chosen by God.
In ancient days, kings would have a special ring called the signet ring. It had the mark of the king on it for his signature. A little wax would be put on a paper and the king would press the ring into wax showing his signature. It gave the person who had that paper the same authority as the king in whatever situation it was for.
Today people use powers of attorney to give someone else the same authority. It is their signature that power has been given correctly. In the work place, managers often give workers a certain amount of authority in an area of the workplace. Everyone knows that whoever has that stamp of approval has the power.
Believers today also are given a stamp of approval by God. They are stamped with the Holy Spirit in their lives. In the process of being filled with God’s Holy Spirit a person becomes God’s signet ring. They can now work in the authority and power of God.
Paul said that believers are in a spiritual war all the time. The spiritual enemies will not recognize just anyone, but they will know who Jesus is and His Holy Spirit. They will flee from the authority of God in the life of a person.
Each day you need to be walking in the Spirit of God in this corrupt, fallen world. The enemy is out to get you, but with God’s Spirit you can overcome the enemy. You will have the power and authority of God to push back the enemy.
Do not feel like you are a nobody with no power. Jesus has given you all of His authority. He has made you His signet ring to defeat the enemy in this world.
Are you walking in His power?
I pray today that you will know the authority God has given you; that you will be filled with His Holy Spirit; that you will not fear the enemy; and that God will strengthen you to overcome the world.
“So you will be my people, and I will be your God.” Jeremiah 30:22
As the people of Judah were being sent into exile in Babylon for punishment, many were thinking that God no longer wanted them. The punishment was going to be very severe and God would seemed to have abandoned them altogether. God did not abandon them completely. He stated that after a time He would restore them. He also told them, while this was occurring, that they would be His people and He would be their God.
Going through life can bring some very troubling times. It may often appear as though God has abandoned a person for life, because of the trials that one is going through. Because of choices that were made, there may be times that God will discipline a person to get him back on track. Other times, it will just be the consequences that God allows because of some poor decisions to walk away from Him.
You may have made one of those bad decisions in your life and you may be going through some discipline right now. It can be painful and feel as though God has left you. The devil and this world will try to tell you God has left you. Your mind may be telling you that God has abandoned you and wants nothing to do with you. It is not true. Never forget that God said He would never leave you, nor forsake you.
Even though you may not be an Israelite, you have become one of God’s children when you accepted Jesus and the work He had done for you. God is always right there to be your God and He wants you to be a part of His family, His people. You were grafted into the vine.
God wants to be your God. He wants you to be one of His people. He has great plans for you, if you are willing to follow Him and allow Him to be God. When you allow God to be the master of your life, He will guide every step you take. Everything that occurs will be for your benefit. God will not do anything that will be there to harm you or destroy you.
Are you trusting God to be your God?
Do you know that you are one of God’s people?
I pray today that you will know God as your God; that you will know that you are one of His people; that you will walk the path God has for you; and that you will obey God in every area of your life.
“Of the men who went to explore the land, only Joshua son of Nun and Caleb son of Jephunneh survived.” Numbers 14:38
Moses had sent twelve men in to the land of Canaan to spy it out. They were to look it over and map it out so that the Israelites would be ready to take it over when they went in. Ten of those men stated that it was a great land but that they would not be able to conquer it. They discouraged the rest of the Israelites from going in as God wanted them to do.
Two of those men knew that with God’s help they could take over the land. Those two were Caleb and Joshua. God struck the rest of those men with a plague that killed them. Only Caleb and Joshua survived.
Through the Bible God has given each person a vision of what heaven is like and who He is. It shows that He is the ruler over every one and every thing. When you read the end of the book it shows that He will win and whoever is with Him will win.
There are many people who state that they believe in Jesus. Jesus had said that many would say they knew Him, but that He did not know them. When it comes to the end time when Jesus returns, He said He would reject many because they did not obey Him. Knowing Jesus is to love Him. To love Jesus is to obey Him.
The apostle Paul said that you are to run the race as to finish it. Believing that you have already accepted Jesus as your Lord and Savior, you must continue in your walk with Him. Do not be afraid to go forward and conquer the land before you.
That land is the life God has given you. It starts with your own personal life. Be the master over sin and death in your life. Then take back the community of people around you for God. Be His witness and do not allow the enemy, Satan, to gain or keep any one person.
Do not be afraid of what this world can do to you. In the end you will win.
Will you be one of the few who survive? “Many will be called, but few are chosen.”
I pray today that God will give you a vision of the land you are to conquer; that God will give you strength to conquer that land; that God will remove all fear of the enemy; and that you will survive to the end.
