Child of God
1 Chronicles 4:11 Whose Son Are You?
Kelub, Shuah’s brother, was the father of Mehir, who was the father of Eshton. 1 Chronicles 4:11
Every person is a child, son or daughter, of someone else. The majority of people born around the world are born of someone who is not very well known outside of a small area of influence.
Some of those people do not even know who their parents are, since they were abandoned for adoption or put in an orphanage at a young age. Of those who know their parents, some are proud of them, while others would like to not be associated with them.
In the genealogical list it lists Kelub as the father of Mehir, who was the father of Eshton.
Knowing who one’s parents are can help a person understand some of their heritage and also possible medical health situations. It can also give a person a foundation as to where he is from.
Most parents are people who are not famous on a grand national scale. They are just common ordinary people who work jobs and are trying to survive and raise a family as best as they can.
While believers may have famous parents or not so famous parents, all of them have one Father who is greater than any other. This Father is King of the entire world. He is the Creator of everything in the universe. He is absolute total control. He owns everything. Every believer is a child, son/daughter, of God.
God, the Father, loves every person so much that He made it possible for every human being to be one of His children.
Believers need to stand up straight and tall knowing who their Father is. They need to let the world know who their Father is, so that others may also become one of His children.
You may or may not know your father here on the earth. If you do know him, you may or may not be proud of him. Regardless of who your physical father is, you have God as your eternal Father.
God, as your Father, will never leave you nor forsake you. He will never mistreat you or abuse you. Everything that He does will be for your eternal good.
Know and understand the heritage that you have in God your Father that goes back to the beginning of time and into eternity in the future.
Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that you will know God as your heavenly Father; that you will know God’s love and commitment to you; that you will let the world know who God is to you; and that you will know what God has done for you.
Romans 8:14 Be A Child Of God
For those who are led by the Spirit of God are the children of God. Romans 8:14
Identification is very important among most people. People want others to be able to identify who they are.
It is common for people to identify others by what they do for work. Along with identifying others by their work, they will also be identified by their character and family relations. Their character shows up in how they act, think, speak and react to others and to situations in their lives.
Every person has some type of identity as to who he is and every person is different from others.
Paul points out that those who want to be children are led by God’s Spirit. Only those led by the Spirit of God are actually children of God.
Many people like to consider themselves a child of God, because confess that they believe in God. While confession is good, it is not the end-all to salvation and being a child of God.
If one truly believes in God’s word and then claims to believe in God and be His child, he will also choose to be led by God. Being led by God is more than just a confession, but it is following up with thoughts, words and actions that are God centered and controlled by Him.
While many people claim to believe in God and be a child of God, very few are actually being led by God. They allow themselves to purposefully participate in sinful activities, ignoring God’s word to their lives. They allow their short-term feelings and emotions to guide them in all of their words and actions.
Instead of allowing personal feelings to guide a believer, one must allow God’s Holy Spirit to guide him. The Holy Spirit will always lead a person to be a true child of God, not one of this world.
Jesus knew you would have struggles as to how to live for Him. He sent His Holy Spirit to guide and lead you in becoming more like Him. Jesus is God’s Son and you can be His son also.
All it takes is allowing the Holy Spirit to lead you in how to be His son. Live a life that is led by the Holy Spirit and you will live a life that is different from most people. Your identity will change from one of this world, to that of God’s kingdom–His child.
Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Savior; that you will hear God’s Holy Spirit in your life; that you will allow the Holy Spirit to lead you; that you will be seen as a child of God; and that you will live as a child of God.
Jeremiah 11:3-4 Obey God
Tell them that this is what the Lord, the God of Israel, says: ‘Cursed is the one who does not obey the terms of this covenant–the terms I commanded your ancestors when I brought them out of Egypt, out of the iron-smelting furnace.’ I said, ‘Obey me and do everything I commanded you, and you will be my people, and I will be your God.’ Jeremiah 11:3-4
Everyone who is in a position of authority wants to be obeyed. They want those under them to obey their every command. That is a right that comes with the position.
In most work places, if one does not obey the boss, there are repercussions. It may start out with a reprimand, but can end up with a firing from the position.
God is reminding the people of Israel that they were to obey His command He gave them when He brought them out of Egypt. If they didn’t obey, then they would be cursed. Obedience meant that they would be His people.
Even though Jesus has come and provided salvation, the command is still there–to obey God. Jesus said if one loves Him, he will obey Him. Obedience is not an option.
Yet, many believers feel that obedience to God is optional, especially with certain commands. Sin is sin and there is no excuse for sinning. God never gives room for a person to purposefully sin against Him.
Jesus gave forgiveness, but also told people to go and sin no more. If one does not obey Jesus and strive to turn away from sin, he is still cursed. Jesus said that in the end that He would turn many away because He did not know them. The reason He didn’t know them is because they did not obey Him.
Every believer must obey God in every area of his life.
If you want to be a child of God and receive the salvation Jesus has provided, you must also obey God. It is easy to say that you love God and believe in Him, but it is another thing to obey Him and not just obey in some areas, but in every area of your life.
God says to love, are you loving? God says to forgive, are you forgiving? God says turn from all sin, are you turning away from all sin?
Think about the commands that Jesus had given. How hard are you striving to obey them? Or are you allowing yourself to be cursed by God?
I pray today that you will know Jesus as your Savior; that you will obey all the commands of God; that you will not follow false gods in your life; that you will turn away from all sin towards God; and that you will be a child of God.
