Luke 8:30 What Is Your Name?

Jesus asked him, “What is your name?” “Legion,” he replied, because many demons had gone into him. Luke 8:30

The disciples and Jesus had landed at a certain place. A man came up to Jesus shouting. This man had been possessed by many demons. When Jesus asked the man his name, the man said it was Legion. This name means a large number of something.

Every person on the earth has at least one name that they go by. Most people have multiple names, more than just a first, middle and last name, although many do not think of them as other names. Some of these other names are: a nickname, son/daughter, mother/father, aunt/uncle, brother/sister, co-worker, boss, teacher, and the list goes on.

Some of the additional names that people like are: friend, spouse, faithful, loyal, and many others.

However, at the same time that there are many names people like, there are also not-so-good names that people carry. These can be liar, thief, sinner, gossip, lazy, ugly, stupid, and the list also goes on.

These types of names cut a person down. They look at the negative side of the person. In these names there does not seem to be any hope or love being shown.

When a person has chosen to give his life to Jesus, he gets a name change. He is no longer a child of the devil, but a child of the King. His name is changed to Child of God, saved, loved, forgiven, and many others.

The world will remember the person as to who he was, but God sees the person as who he is becoming and can be. As a believer, he is becoming like Jesus.

If you have given your life to Jesus, your name has been changed. You are a new person, a new creation in Christ Jesus your Lord.

There will be times that you may not do the right thing. The devil will try to accuse you and change your name back to an old name. You have to resist the devil and trust in what Jesus did for you. Stay with the name He has given you.

Each day you need to strive to live up to the name God has given you and remember that name. Do not allow this world to bring up the past, that was who you were, but are no longer.

What is your name?

I pray today that you will know Jesus as your Savior; that you will know the names God has given you; that you will not believe the lies of this world or the devil; and that you will be a witness of Jesus to this world.

1 Chronicles 1-9 Nobodies, But Important Somebodies

Please read 1 Chronicles 1-9.

This is a book that starts out with the genealogies of the people of Israel. It starts out with Noah, who, with his family, was the only one on the earth after the flood, and goes all the way to Saul. It reads that someone was the son of someone, or that someone was the father of someone.

For most people it is a very dry boring read. Many people even skip over reading it. Reading it is even more difficult, when most people cannot even begin to pronounce even half of the names recorded. Then comes the big question as to why would God want a person to read this long list of people being born? What is the purpose?

Most of the people listed in these chapters are what could be called a “nobody”. They are no one really important and did not do any great earth-shattering thing in their life. This is the only place in the Bible that many of the men named here are named at all. They were just ordinary, simple hard-working men.

The important thing about each of these men is that they were included with the plans of God. Although many of these men did not serve God or honor Him with their lives, God still had them in His plan for the entire world. Although it is not shown here, some of these men were the great ancestors of Jesus. They were somebody important, even though during their time, they were not really anyone important.

How does that affect you today?

If you are like most people, you are not somebody who has a major influence with millions of people around the world. Your sphere of influence is very limited. You may even feel like it is just you and your family.

Regardless of your level of influence according to this world’s standards, you are in God’s hands and His plans. He has a job for you to do. His plan for you is in helping to build the greatest kingdom this world has ever seen–God’s kingdom. This kingdom will last for all eternity, not just a few thousand years at best.

You are somebody important. God sent His son to die for you so that you could be called His son and be a part of His family.

Be encouraged today that you are really someone important. You are important to the One who created everything and holds everything together. You are not just a somebody, but God’s child.

I pray today that you will know what God has done for you; that you will know how much God loves you; that you will know that you are a child of God; that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; and that you will be God’s witness in this world.

1 John 3:1 Whose Child You Are

“See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him.” 1 John 3:1

Family relationships can mean a lot for some people. Most people are related to people who are not super well-known or have an extreme high position.

The children of the president of a corporation has the ability to call on their parent any time and get through immediately, most of the time. Everyone else who calls, usually will have to wait.

As a believer in Jesus, you have received a new relationship. God, the Father of Jesus, now calls you His own child. You have been adopted into God’s family. How much greater love can there ever be than that?

Now you have a family relationship who is more than just important or well-known, He is the creator of everything that there is. God is the One who has power to create the stars and remove the stars. He is the One who created life and gives life to everything that is alive.

Today you have His authority and His attention. Day or night you can go before Him and He will hear you.

The world may think you are strange for saying you have God as your Father, but that is because the world does not know Him. The world does not see or accept God, so they cannot know Him in any way. When someone says they are in a relationship with God, the world looks at that person as strange.

Yet, you do have that relationship. That relationship is closer than with any person in the world. God created you. No person created you, not even your parents. God just used your parents to create you.

Since you have such a close relationship with God, live for Him and with Him. Stop and think about how great that love is, that the creator of the universe wants to have you as His child. Give God the praise and glory for His great love for you!

I pray today that you will know the love God has for you; that you will realize you are God’s child; that you will live to give God honor; that you will show the world who God is; and that God will make you more like Jesus everyday.

1 John 3:1 What You Are

“See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him.” 1 John 3:1

In this world knowing someone important can open many doors. Often if you try to go to someone important and do not know anyone directly, the doors will be closed, but as soon as you name someone important in sending you, the doors open wide.

Even more doors will open if you are the child of someone important. Remember the pictures of John F Kennedy’s children playing around the desk of the President of the United States in the Oval Office. Not just any child would be able to do that. In fact, very few have ever been able to do that. Thousands of people each year get to visit the White House, but most likely none of the children get to play in the Oval Office.

Knowing the President is great, but how much greater is it to be his child? It is the same with God. Knowing God is great, but being His child is even greater.

Noticed how John tells you that the Father has lavished great love on us in calling you His child. This love is poured out on you not just in a little bit, but over abundantly more than you can imagine.

Think about this. You were not born serving God. You sinned against Him. You hated Him. Yet, God, in His great love is willing to accept you and call you His child! What great love!

What greater position can you hold than a child of God? A child of the One who created the entire universe. A child of the One who holds absolute power and owns everything.

The world does not really know you. You are a strange person to the world. This is because they do not know God. Remember that you are set apart, holy unto God.

Today, when no one seems to care about you; when the boss treats you harshly; when you feel down and alone–remember that you are a child of God. As a child of God, you hold access to absolute power and all wealth and all health. You have the greatest favor that can ever be given to a person.

I pray that today God will reveal His love to you; that you will have a full understanding of being a child of God; that you will live like a child of God; and that you will be a witness in this world of God and His love.
