Jeremiah 11:3-4 Obey God

Abandoned volkswagon

Tell them that this is what the Lord, the God of Israel, says: ‘Cursed is the one who does not obey the terms of this covenant–the terms I commanded your ancestors when I brought them out of Egypt, out of the iron-smelting furnace.’ I said, ‘Obey me and do everything I commanded you, and you will be my people, and I will be your God.’ Jeremiah 11:3-4

Everyone who is in a position of authority wants to be obeyed. They want those under them to obey their every command. That is a right that comes with the position.

In most work places, if one does not obey the boss, there are repercussions. It may start out with a reprimand, but can end up with a firing from the position.

God is reminding the people of Israel that they were to obey His command He gave them when He brought them out of Egypt. If they didn’t obey, then they would be cursed. Obedience meant that they would be His people.

Even though Jesus has come and provided salvation, the command is still there–to obey God. Jesus said if one loves Him, he will obey Him. Obedience is not an option.

Yet, many believers feel that obedience to God is optional, especially with certain commands. Sin is sin and there is no excuse for sinning. God never gives room for a person to purposefully sin against Him.

Jesus gave forgiveness, but also told people to go and sin no more. If one does not obey Jesus and strive to turn away from sin, he is still cursed. Jesus said that in the end that He would turn many away because He did not know them. The reason He didn’t know them is because they did not obey Him.

Every believer must obey God in every area of his life.

If you want to be a child of God and receive the salvation Jesus has provided, you must also obey God. It is easy to say that you love God and believe in Him, but it is another thing to obey Him and not just obey in some areas, but in every area of your life.

God says to love, are you loving? God says to forgive, are you forgiving? God says turn from all sin, are you turning away from all sin?

Think about the commands that Jesus had given. How hard are you striving to obey them? Or are you allowing yourself to be cursed by God?

I pray today that you will know Jesus as your Savior; that you will obey all the commands of God; that you will not follow false gods in your life; that you will turn away from all sin towards God; and that you will be a child of God.

Deuteronomy 28:9 What Is Your Reputation?

Following God

The LORD will establish you as his holy people, as he promised you on oath, if you keep the commands of the LORD your God and walk in obedience to him. Deuteronomy 28:9

People are usually known by what they do. It is common for men, when talking to tell each other what they do for a job or career. For many people it is their job or career is what defines who they are, it becomes their reputation. Jobs or careers are what most people do with the majority of their time.

While there is nothing wrong with having a job or career, that is not really what make the person who they are. There is a grander, life-long description that describes a person. This can be seen in how they act and react to situations. It is seen in what their overall view of life is.

God had raised up the Israelites into a nation. All they had to do was keep the commands of God and obey Him. If they did that, God would establish them and set up their reputation as His holy people. They would belong to God and God would let the world know that.

Although believers no longer have to follow the law for salvation, God still desires His people to obey Him and follow Jesus. In the process of obeying God and following Jesus, every believer will be established on this earth as His holy people.

People will see the believer’s reputation as one who believes in God, obeys God, follows God. They will see the reputation of one who shows love, grace and mercy just as Jesus shows. People will talk about the reputation of the believer.

As a believer, you are a child of God. You are a part of His holy family. You have a family reputation to uphold. God is a holy, loving God, who is merciful and full of grace.

Obeying God, will put love, grace and mercy first in everything you do in this life. It will cause God to stand out front in your life. Your reputation will be established as one of God’s holy people. This is not ‘holy than thou’ but pure holiness, staying out of sin, holiness.

Going through life, you will establish a reputation. How you are known as? Are you known by your job, career, or accomplishments in this world?

Or are you known as a child of God, holy and pure?

I pray today that you will know Jesus as your Savior; that you will learn to obey all of God’s commands to you; that people will know you as a follower of Jesus; and that you not be ashamed of Jesus.

Philippians 2:14-15 Shine Like A Star

Milky way stars

Do everything without grumbling or arguing, so that you may become blameless and pure, “children of God without fault in a warped and crooked generation.” Then you will shine among them like stars in the sky Philippians 2:14-15

One thing that a person can count on hearing in a workplace is complaining and arguing. There are very few people who do not complain about their work or argue with someone about politics or sports.

People are often not happy with whatever situation that they are in, so they then complain about it. Some are worse than others, but most people have something to complain about. Complaining about the weather, the spouse, the children, the bills, the news, the breakdowns, the government, illness, injuries, the neighbors and the list is endless.

Along with complaining they want to argue about everything. They argue about how to get something done, or why something should not be done. This can also run in every area of life.

Those in the church are not a whole lot different. They complain about the songs sung, the level of sound, the length of the sermon, and how things are done. They argue about the best way to do something, doctrines, and traditions.

Most do not try to be mean or a downer about their complaining or arguing, but they are still doing it.

Paul says that one is to do everything without complaining or arguing. If this is done, one will be blameless and pure and will shine like a star in the sky.

If a person is not complaining or arguing, he is trusting God in every situation, he is putting others first, and he is showing love to everyone. Doing all of these things is not normal in this world. As he does this, he will stand out as different and shine brightly. He will show the purity and holiness of God in this dark, depraved world.

Think about the words you speak each day. How often do you complain to someone about something? How often do you argue with someone about something?

Turn your eyes on to God and trust that He is in control with your best in mind. That will help you keep from complaining.

Know and understand God’s love for all people, this will help you keep from arguing with them. Know and speak the truth in true love.

Shine like a star.

I pray today that you will trust that God is in control; that God will give you the words to speak; that you words will be words of love and encouragement; and that God will guide you to be pure and blameless in this world.

Romans 8:14 Who Leads You?

Leading A person

For those who are led by the Spirit of God are the children of God. Romans 8:14

People are being led all the time, whether they want to be led or not. Bosses lead their workers in what needs to be done to get the job done. Teachers lead students in what needs to be learned and how to learn it. Various people in authority lead a group of people in being a group or a community.

There are many who put themselves in a position of being led by others. They follow the example of other people and live like they do. People change their clothing or hair because of some celebrity they are following. Others will do the same following a friend or other peers around them. It is common for a person to do something he normally would not do, because he is being led by friends.

The majority of people are also led by their own personal feelings. They do what they feel is best for their own lives.

While being led by these different methods may not always be a bad thing, they are never the best way to be led. Each of these ways are being led by a person, who has faults and does not always know the best choice to make. They only see a small part of the big picture of life.

One who wants to be led perfectly, must be led by God’s Holy Spirit. God will always make the perfect choice for one’s life.

The challenge with being led by God is that it does not always appear to make sense and it takes time to listen to God to hear what He wants done. Yet, it is those who are led by God, that are the children of God. They are living in God’s perfect will and desire.

As a believer, your life should be one that is characterized by the leading of the Holy Spirit. Before any decision or action is made, check with God. He knows what is best for your life. Allow Him to guide your every choice of action.

As you do this, you are living completely for God in His perfect will. You will be a child of God. This will allow you to do God’s will and keep away from sin.

Are you a child of God? Are you being led by God?

I pray today that you will know what God wants you to do; that you will hear God’s Spirit guiding you; that you will be a true child of God; and that God will use you to do His work on this earth.
