The Lord their God will save them in that day, as the flock of His people. For they shall be like the jewels of a crown, lifted like a banner over His land–Zechariah 9:16
Driving down a road one will see many billboards and banners alongside the road advertising many different things. The idea of the banners is to let others know about something, usually to get them to purchase some item. Some information needs to be broadcast for all to hear. The more people hear or see it, the more that can maybe benefit from it.
Zechariah writes that God will save them on some future date. The people will be like jewels in a crown and a banner over God’s land.
The world has no problems with flying a banner to get some information out. Banners are flown to promote many different issues or feelings. There is often no shame in flying those banners, because people feel extremely strongly about what they are promoting.
God is willing to save any and all who come to Him believing in Jesus. As He saves someone from sin, He rejoices over that person and is willing to lift that person up as a banner over the land. God wants the world to see those who believe in Him and follow Him.
No one deserves God’s love, but He does love them and has paid the price for their sins so that they may be saved. As a result, they are to be a banner, a witness to this fallen world of who Jesus is. God is not ashamed to call the believer one of His and fly that person over the land, so the believer should not be ashamed to fly for God.
You have seen banners flying, advertising various events or products. In the same way, God is flying you as His banner and jewel of His crown over the land. He is proud to call you, His child, one of His family. In the same way do not let fear or shame keep you from being His witness. Allow God to raise you up as His banner promoting Jesus to this world that is dying in sin and need a savior. People need to hear about Jesus, and you can be that witness they need to hear.
Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that you will know that you can be saved and one of God’s people; that you will know that you are a jewel in God’s crown; that you will be a banner for God to this world; and that the world will see you are a child of God.
