Soul Leadership (book review)

Dr. Steve Robinson is a pastor of a large and growing church and has set up new churches around the world. He desire is to help people grow in their leadership and abilities.

Over the years there have been many leaders who have risen to the top and were very successful in their work that suddenly made a poor decision and fell to the bottom, many who never recover. Leadership requires a lot of a person.

Dr Robinson shows how past trauma in one’s life will often cause an effect upon decisions made in the present time. He shows how there are three levels of trauma and then goes on to show how people often react to them, both in the positive and the negative and how they affect later decisions.

With this book, he talks about how he learned how past trauma in his life hurt his work and how he was able to get through it and grow from that trauma. He shows how to look at and admit that trauma and how to use it to grow, rather than to shrivel up and die. Throughout this book he does not deny the possible need for psychiatric help, but does point out the need for God and His word to have a place in there at the same time. Once a person understands what the trauma was and how to deal with it, one can also learn how to grow and use that trauma for greater things and how to lead others in the correct way.

This book did challenge me in some areas of my life. It helped me to recognize past trauma in my life and how it affects me to this day with choices being made. I would highly recommend everyone in a leadership position to read this book, and also those who are not in a leadership position. Everyone is a leader to some degree or other and it will help everyone. Also, everyone has gone through some trauma in their life and can learn how to move on from that trauma.

This is an easy book to read, though it does go in some higher-level details in explaining how the brain works with trauma.
