Where the word of a king is, there is power; and who may say to him, “What are you doing?” Ecclesiastes 8:4
High level authorities are often given complete authority. They are able to say something or give a command and no one really questions it. It is usually understood that the highest authority has complete authority and command. This can clearly be seen in the military with officers and soldiers. The soldier does not question the commands of the higher-ranking officer. There is power and authority in the leader’s words.
Solomon says that when the king says something, there is power, and no one may question what the king is doing.
Every nation, community and business has someone who is in authority at a level in which no one else will really question that person. Respect for the authority is often given and trust that the top leader knows what is being said and done. In some circumstances and places, if a person questions the highest authority that person may be removed. Some nations will have the person put in prison or killed.
While many understand this with human kings and leaders, many forget it with God. God, who created everything and owns everything, has ultimate authority over everyone and everything. He has the right to say and do what He wants without having to answer to someone for His actions.
Yet, many people question God and ask Him what He is doing. Many will get angry with God for doing or not doing something.
Believers are to trust God in every situation. When God speaks, one is to say yes and not question what God has said. It never becomes about self, but all about God and what He wants, since He is the ultimate authority. And unlike, human authority, God’s authority is perfect and with perfect love and can be trusted.
There are probably some people over you in your life that have enough authority that you do not question their words or actions. You understand that they can say and do as they desire, and you also trust their words and actions.
In the same way you trust those few people, put your total trust in God, His words and actions. Do not be like the world and question what God has to say or do. Know that He loves you with a perfect love and will only do what is best.
Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that you will trust God’s words and actions in your life; that you give God complete authority over your life; and that God will do great things in and through you.
