Saving My Assassin (book review)

Virginia Prodan, the author, writes this true memoir about her life that began in Romania under the Nicolae Ceausescu regime that nearly destroyed the nation.

She begins the story when she was only about seven years old and tells how her parents treated her extremely badly. Her brother and sister were treated extremely well, and she did not understand why. As a young child she had first heard about Christ and believed in Him. Virginia also learned the effects of communism in her nation was.

Despite her parents not wanting her to, the government allowed her to go to law school, and she graduated in the top ten percent of her class. In her practice, she defended believers against the cruel dictatorship of Nicolae Ceausescu, who tried to destroy all Christianity in his nation by any means necessary.

Virginia describes the horrors of communism and persecution in her nation. At one point, Ceausescu hires someone to kill her to stop her promotion for Christianity. She learns quickly that she needs to stand with God and love her enemies no matter how ugly it gets.

Throughout this story, she quotes many bible verses that helped her in difficult times. She told of her prayers for God to give her strength and protection against the enemy while asking God to be merciful to her enemies. I will not reveal how the story ends.

This story brought tears of sorrow and joy to my eyes multiple times as I read it. I highly encourage every believer to read this story. It is an easy read and moves at a good pace. It will challenge you in standing strong and true for God and trusting Him in every situation. It will also challenge you to truly love and pray for your enemies with the love of God.
