When Prophets Want To Die (book review)
Mike Clarensau takes a look at various prophets throughout the Bible that at some point in their lives wanted to die. In each one he takes a brief look at their life and then at the point in which they wanted to die.
Throughout this book, Mike looks at nine different prophets. Some of them are: Jonah, Jeremiah, Moses and Ahithophel. Each prophet had some major difficult duty in their life that brought them to the point of wanting to give up and die for various reasons. Some are wanting to die out of failure, selfishness, out of the weight of what God called them to do, or the danger of doing what God called them to do.
As he looks at each of these prophets, he shows why they wanted to die and then brings it to current times in which a believer may face the same problems. The focus of his book is about learning some of the hardest lessons God will ever teach a believer.
The final prophet that is looked at is Jesus. He is set apart in that He came with a purpose to die. Following Christ’s example, believers are called to die to self and possibly have to give their physical life also.
At the end of each chapter, Mike will ask a series of questions for an individual and another series for group discussion. These help the reader to apply what is learned from each of the prophets. This book is written in a very easy to read manner and uses a lot of scripture throughout it.
I highly recommend reading this book. While one may not be a prophet, there is a path that God has called each believer to walk. In that path there will be some extreme difficulties at times. One has to be willing to sacrifice self to be able to walk that path. It may even require the physical loss of life in the end. It will challenge your walk with God and your faith in God.
