The Gentiles shall see your righteousness, and all kings your glory. You shall be called by a new name, which the mouth of the Lord will name. Isaiah 62:2
Going through major changes will sometimes require getting a new name or a new description. Women who get married take on a new last name. They are known for what they have become and no longer what they once were. Some businesses will change the name of a product to rebrand it and make it new to the people. The focus is on what is new, not the old. Isaiah is talking about Jerusalem being changed.
The Gentiles will begin to see their righteousness and glory, and they shall be called by a new name that God has given them.
People are most commonly known by their physical name of who they are what they go by. However, people are also given names by what they do and what their character is. Such names might be: boss, father, son, daughter, mother, friend, or grumpy, friendly, strict, lenient or many others. Over time, some of these names may change.
Those who do not follow God are called lost, sinners, forsaken, without hope and condemned. The majority of the world falls into these categories.
At the moment a person chooses to repent and believe in Jesus, that person is given a new name by God. One now is known as saved, righteous, forgiven, holy, pure, servant of God and child of God.
As a believer, the world will see the person as different and set apart. The world now sees the person as being different, changed, belonging to God. They will see the righteousness of Jesus being exemplified through the life of the new believer.
You may be known by many different names in different circles you are in. Each of those names should be a sign of who you are. Although it may be good by what the world calls you, the most important name you should be known by is what God calls you. The world will give you names that are false and not eternal.
Take hold of the new name God gives you. Trust His naming of you and walk in His ways according to His name for you. Be the one God has called you to be, saved, righteous, holy, child and servant of God–a new creation.
Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that you will know the name that God calls you; that you will be who God has called you to be; and that the world will see who God has made you to be.
