I said to myself, “God will bring into judgement both the righteous and the wicked, for there will be time for every activity, a time to judge every deed.” Ecclesiastes 3:17
No one likes to be judged. People want to be able to be who they are with no judgement upon them by anyone. Being judged will often imply that one is doing something wrong.
It is very common for people to quickly condemn judgement by someone else. The other person does not understand or is too harsh or too legalistic. It infringes upon personal rights and freedoms.
Solomon realized that there will come a day when God will judge everyone, both the righteous and the unrighteous. They will be judged for what they did or did not do.
Believers are quick to comment that God will judge those who are wicked, but claim that they will not be judged by God, because they are under the grace of Jesus and His forgiveness. However, every person will be judged for what they said and did.
Jesus said that every idle word will be taken into account. There is coming a day of judgement upon every person.
The difference between the righteous and the wicked is that the wicked will be judged for condemnation. Those who are righteous, followers of Jesus, cleansed by His blood, will be judged for their words and actions for a reward in heaven, not for salvation.
Salvation is free and cannot be earned. The actions of a believer determine the rewards in heaven. Will they come out with precious gold and stones or will their deeds burn up as wood, hay and stubble?
Knowing this, the believer should strive to live for God in every area of his life. He should seek to do what is right in God’s eyes and to live a holy life as Christ lived His. With the power and guidance of the Holy Spirit, this is possible.
As you go through your days, ask yourself how you are living for God. If God were to judge you by your actions, would they show that you do believe in Jesus or would it show a lack of belief?
While you may never be perfect, there is a striving that one can do. As you learn to love God more, you will also learn to live like Jesus more. Live as though your actions determine your salvation, but believe, knowing that Jesus already paid the price for your salvation, it is a gift.
I pray today that you will know Jesus as your Savior; that God will reveal to you how to live your life; that your actions and words will show you follow Jesus; that you will be more like Jesus each day; and that you will love God with your whole life.
Those who forsake instruction praise the wicked, but those who heed it resist them. Proverbs 28:4
Listening to and accepting instruction is an annoyance to many people. The classic example is of a dad who spends hours attempting to assemble a new toy on Christmas morning, because he does not want to read the instructions. He thinks he can do it without the instructions.
People do not like to be instructed because they want to do things their own way. Getting instructions is like being the underdog or the worker and not the leader or boss.
Everyone wants their freedom to do what they want, how they want and when they want, thus instructions are ignored. Many will try to find a loop-hole in the instructions to get out of following them.
Solomon says that those who would ignore instruction are actually lifting up those who are wicked.
Being given instructions is something that has occurred since Adam and Eve walked on their earth. God gave them a few instructions on how to tend the garden, yet they ignored the instructions and fell into sin. They gave honor to the devil and praised him.
Believers are to obey God and those in authority over them. Leaders will give instructions on how to do something, just as God does. Rejecting those instructions is being selfish and praising those who are wicked. It is saying that those who do things the wrong way are right. It is rejection of God.
However, accepting instruction is admitting one does not have all the answers. It is admitting that someone is greater. It is allowing God to be in control. In doing this one will be resisting the wicked and all sin. They will seek to walk on the path of righteousness in Christ Jesus.
God has some instructions for you on how you are to live your life. Some of those instructions you will read in the Bible. Some you will hear God speak to your heart. Others will be spoken to you through someone else.
You have two choices when you hear some instructions. You can ignore it and be selfish, self-knowing and walk the wrong path. Or you can accept it in obedience and walk the path God has for you.
Do not allow the ways of the wicked and this world lead you down the wrong path. Take the instructions God has for you and walk His path for you. Resist sin and follow God.
I pray today that you will hear God’s voice in your life; that God will reveal His instructions to you; that God will strengthen you to turn from all sin; and that you will walk the life of righteousness in Jesus.
But there they are, overwhelmed with dread, for God is present in the company of the righteous. Psalm 14:5
Fear is something that most people do not like to talk about it. They want to appear as though they are in control and have nothing to fear. Yet, most people have some fear.
Having fear can cause a person to do some crazy things. Fear of catching a disease or sickness, will cause some people to wipe down everything before they will touch it. It will cause some people to go through bottles of hand wipes trying to keep their hands clean. It will cause some to go way out of their way in order to avoid someone or an area that they fear.
David talked about how the evildoers, the world, work at devouring God’s people. While they were doing this, the evildoers were filled with dread, because God was present with the righteous.
Jesus had promised that the world would hate His followers and that His followers would be persecuted. This is something that is happening all over the entire world. The world is against His people.
Satan and the world is against believers, because God is present with them. God’s presence brings about a conviction that they (the world) are not living correctly. No one wants to be told they are living in the wrong. This challenges their way of living.
Rather than changing, they fight against God and His people. They are afraid of change. They are afraid that God’s people will overcome and turn people towards God. People fear that they will have to change their way of living, so they will fight against believers. They do not see the full love of God and the value of change needed in their lives.
As people go against you-a believer-know that they are doing it out of fear. If they really saw the love of God, they would not fear you or any other believer.
Be willing to show love, so that they have no real proof of hatred or anything to fear. Love can draw them towards God, but until they are drawn, they will fear the change and fight against God. They attack and hate out of fear and dread. They are scared at what God’s church can do.
Overwhelm this world with love so that they can see God. Know that they are acting out of fear, but God is with you. You are on the winning team.
I pray today that you will know God’s love for all people; that God will remove all fear of others; that God will remove all fear in your life of His will for your life; that you will know the power of God in your life; and that you will not fear the world.
