Isaiah 38:1 Is Your House In Order?

In those days Hezekiah was sick and near death. And Isaiah the prophet, the son of Amoz, went to him and said to him, “Thus says the Lord: Set your house in order, for you shall die and not live.” Isaiah 38:1

No one really likes to think about death, especially their own death. The younger the person is, the less likely one will think about death. When a person begins to think about death, it is when there has been death around them or one begins to have a severe sickness or injury that could lead to death.

As Hezekiah as sick and about to die, Isaiah brings a word from God to him that he needs to get his house in order, because he will die.

Most people live in the pleasure of the moment without much thought for tomorrow. They will also plan their tomorrows as if there is no chance that there may not be a tomorrow. Death is often a very far thought from the mind of a person.

The truth is that nearly every person will die, eventually. Only two are recorded to have never died, yet everyone lives as though they will not die anytime soon. Very few people are set up and ready to die. They have no wills or plans for when they die, thus their house is not in order.

Along with the physical things not being in order, many are not living for God in repentance of sin and following His ways.

Believers need to always have their personal house in order to be ready for when God calls them home. This begins with having their own personal life set right before God. Walking in the truth and repenting of sins, believing in the saving work of Jesus. Once that is done, believers must do the work God has for them to do in their house, neighborhood and nation. Then their house will be in order.

No matter what your age is you are still alive and have a work to do for God. Begin with making sure your walk with God is on the correct path. Then seek God’s will for your life to do what He has called you to do, be the witness you are meant to be. Make sure that your house, physically and spiritually, is in order for the day when God chooses to call you home.

Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that your heart will be made right with God; that your house will be prepared for death when God takes you home; that you will live with eternity in mind; and that God will not have to warn you of coming death.
