John 20:27 Stop Doubting & Believe

No doubt.jpg

Then he said to Thomas, “Put your finger here; see my hands. Reach out your hand and put it into my side. Stop doubting and believe.” John 20:27

Many of the disciples had seen Jesus after his death and resurrection, however, Thomas had not. Thomas had stated that unless he could put his hands in the holes in Jesus’ hands and feet, he would not believe.

Jesus appeared to the disciples and told Thomas to put his hands in the holes. Then He said to stop doubting and believe.

Doubt is something that runs high among people all over the world. People doubt many different things. This is not surprising since the devil is a liar and lies bring about doubt. People cannot always know for certain whether what someone is saying is true or not. There is a lot of falsehood in this world, under many different disguises.

Sadly many people doubt that Jesus rose from the dead or is the Savior of the world.

What is more sad, is that many believers, those who claim to believe in and follow Jesus, often doubt His words.

Throughout the bible God has made many promises to those who believe in Him. Jesus promised to meet the believers every need; to remove all sin; to save for all eternity; and would never leave or forsake the believer.

Yet, when things are going rough, many stop believing His words and begin to doubt the bible. Many believers begin to worry about how things are going to turn out, because they are doubting God’s word. Fear and anxiety trouble many believers.

Although a believer cannot reach out and physically touch Jesus, he can look at God’s word and see what God has already done in His life and in the lives of others. When he sees that, he must stop doubting and start believing.

When you begin to doubt God, stop and look at your own life. Take note of how many times God has provided for you or His promises are seen in your life.

Now stop worrying about what is happening, and start believing the words of Jesus. Hide His word in your heart to remember what He said. Refuse to follow the ways of this world and doubt the truth.

Know the truth about Jesus and stop doubting. Stop doubting and start believing that God is with you and for you.

I pray today that you will know Jesus as your Savior; that you will believe that Jesus is alive; that you will believe all the words of God; and that you will no longer have any doubt in God’s promises.

John 10:37 Do Not Believe, Unless…

“Do not believe me unless I do the works of my Father.” John 10:37

Several opponents of Jesus came up to Him with stones to stone Him. They were ready to stone Him because of blasphemy. Jesus had been saying that He was one with God the Father, that He was God. Jesus told them not to believe Him unless He was doing the works of His Father.

All over the world, there are many things or people who want others to believe in. Politicians want people to believe that they will do what is best for them. Salesmen want people to believe that their product is the best for them. Actors and singers want people to believe that their performance is the best. Parents want their children to believe that they are making the best choices for them. Believers want people to believe them that Jesus is the Savior and God loves them.

The challenge for people is knowing who to believe and who not to believe.

While there are many who are being honest in this world about who they are and what they are trying to get others to believe in, there are many who are not speaking the truth. Being dishonest, yet looking good, is how thieves work, or kidnappers work.

In order to know if a person is being honest and can be believed, one must look at his life and see if it lines up with His words.

Jesus understood this concept and told the people that they must look to see if what He was saying and doing was lining up with what God was saying and doing. If He was doing the works of God, then He was to be believed. If He was not doing the works of God, then He was not to be believed.

The same principle applies today. When you hear someone speaking about God, look to see if it lines up with what the bible says. Look to see if his life is lining up with the life of Jesus. Believe what is said only if it lines up with God’s word.

At the same time, take a look at your own life and see if it lines up with what God’s word says. Are you doing the works of God or are you doing the works of man?

Don’t just believe, but believe when it follows God’s word.

I pray today that you will know God’s word in your life; that God will reveal Himself to you; that you will believe because you see God at work; and that your life will line up to God’s word so others may believe.

John 6:35 Are You Hungry & Thirsty?

Water and Bread

Then Jesus declared, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.” John 6:35

The people were talking about believing the scriptures of God, the Old Testament. They were unwilling to believe in Jesus, even though Moses talked about Him, yet they were willing to follow Moses. Jesus then tells them that He is the bread of life and all need to come to Him to be satisfied.

All over the world there are people who are physically hungry and thirsty for real food and water. The reasons for not having enough food and water are different with different people. Some of the cases it is the result of the actions of other people. In some cases it is the cause of draught and famine in the land, natural causes.

There are many people who have more than enough food and water, but are still hungry and thirsty. They have a spiritual hunger and thirst. People want purpose and meaning in this life to feel fulfilled and satisfied. The majority of people seek things of this world to bring them this needed satisfaction. However, they can never get enough, they continue to hunger for more, never being satisfied.

The spiritual hunger that they are feeling can only be satisfied in Jesus. Believing in and following Jesus will give a person purpose in this life. With Jesus one will never have a spiritual hunger for something that does not satisfy. Believing in Jesus will give a person the desire to do the mission that God has for him in this world–to seek and save the lost.

Along with the food, they will also receive God’s Holy Spirit. They will be able to drink in His Spirit and be filled with strength, power, and a refreshing that allows them to keep going. They will be satisfied.

If you are going through life hungry for more in this life, seek Jesus. Take in His words. Then follow His mission in this world. As you fulfill the purpose God has for you in this life, you will be satisfied more than anything this world can offer.

God will fill every need you have as you follow and trust in Jesus. Do not allow yourself to continue to be hungry and thirsty. Believe in and trust Jesus with your life.

I pray today that you will believe in Jesus; that you will do the work God has for you; that you will find satisfaction and fulfillment in following Jesus; and that you will be a witness of Jesus to this world.

Matthew 3:10 Don’t Get Cut Down

The ax is already at the root of the trees, and every tree that does not produce good fruit will be cut down and thrown into the fire. Matthew 3:10

John the Baptist was baptizing people at the river. Several Pharisees and Sadducees came up to see what was happening. John warned them that they must produce fruit with repentance or else they would be cut down. Using the illustration of them being trees, he stated that if the tree does not produce good fruit it will be cut down.

Every tree is expected to be productive. Fruit trees are expected to produce good fruit. Ones that are not fruit trees are expected to produce leaves and either nuts or flowers on them. Any tree that does not produce any fruit or leaves is considered dead.

A dead tree is worthless as a tree. It will be cut down and used for firewood. There is no other purpose for it.

God expects people to work in the same way as a tree does. A believer must produce fruit in his life. It is easy for a person to repent of any sins and claim to believe in Jesus. It only takes a few seconds and a few words to do that.

Those actions are good, but it is not the end of everything in what it means to believe in and follow Jesus. There also has to be fruit in the life of the person. There must be a change in the person.

Paul stated that believers would be a new creation in Christ Jesus (2 Corinthians 5:17). The person must show that he is a believer in Jesus and turn away from sin. The fruit of the Spirit must be showing in his life.

Along with change in his own life, the believer must also be reaching out to others and drawing them to Christ Jesus. He must be a witness to this fallen world.

If there is no fruit in his life, he will be cut down and cast out in the end.

Take a look at your life. Do you see fruit in your own life?

Are you changing your habits to follow God?

Are you being the witness Jesus called you to be?

Or are you still living pretty much the same as before you claimed to believe in Jesus?

Produce some fruit today in your life and don’t get cut down by God.

I pray today that God will stir up life in you; that you will begin to produce God’s fruit in your life; that you will be the witness God wants you to be; and that God will see you as a productive member of His kingdom.
