Then the dust will return to the earth as it was, and the spirit will return to God who gave it. Ecclesiastes 12:7
Day after day people get up go to work or play, doing the same thing day after day as though nothing is going to happen. For many, the only concern is in the moment, having pleasure or working. Few keep in mind that life on this planet is short, until some disaster strikes nearby or in one’s own life, and one is reminded of how short life really is on this earth.
Solomon says that dust will return to the earth and the spirit will return back to God in the end.
The young person feels as if life is forever, there is time to do everything and anything a person desires, with no end in sight. There is very little concern or worry over death. One is full of youthful life, living as one may want to live.
Death is often an eye opener for many people. When someone close dies or one has a near death experience, one begins to think about death. It is the one thing that no person can escape or overcome.
At the moment one dies, the body begins to go back to the earth as dust. Mankind was created from the dust and will return to dust in the end. As the physical body returns to the earth, the spirit or soul returns to God.
This return to God is for final judgement. One is judged as to whether that person believed in and followed Jesus, being forgiven of sins and is given eternal life or one rejected Jesus and is condemned to hell for eternity.
Everyone will die and will be judged by God. What happens after that is determined how one lives in this life–for God or against God.
In your life you have most likely seen some death occur near you. During that time, it may have opened your eyes and heart to the fact that you will not live forever on this earth. Death will come to you at some point, it is inevitable. Make the choice today to live for God. Repent of your sins and believe in the saving power of Jesus Christ upon the cross so that you when you die and go before God, He can give you eternal life, not eternal death.
Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that you will live your life for God; that God will be able to give you eternal life when you die; that God will reveal how short life on this earth is; and that your life will be one that honors and obeys God.
