Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord, the fruit of the womb is a reward. Psalm 127:3
In nearly every place that a person goes, there are children to be seen. In some places, children are very welcome and enjoyed, while in others, children are discouraged or even ignored and unwanted. People have different views of children from being loved and cherished, to being unwanted or even hated. For many, children appear to be in the way of their dreams and goals in life, thus they do not want the children around them or in their lives.
Solomon writes that children are a heritage and a reward from the Lord.
The world sees children as a great inconvenience and expense. It costs a lot of money to raise a child, which in turn destroys their retirement funds or abilities to purchase things they want and do what they want. Children are so looked down upon that the world sees it as acceptable to murder a child (abortion) before the child has a chance to live outside the womb.
God sees children as differently. They are a great reward, a blessing, an inheritance from God. Children are a sign of life that God makes available to every person. It is His sign to keep life on this planet going forward.
Yes, children can be costly and very challenging to nurture and raise, but so is the believer. Every believer is a child of God, whom God paid an extremely high price for and works hard at nurturing in His ways. The price for the believer to be a child of God was the death of Jesus upon a cross.
If God is willing to pay that price for each and every believer, how much should one be willing to accept and pay for a child God rewards them with?
You may or may not have any children and you may or may not love or despise children. Either way, see how God loves children and sees them as a reward to you. This reward can be children of your own, or other people’s children around you.
Instead of pushing children away, see them as a reward. It is God giving you the opportunity to help mold and shape a child into the image of Jesus. Just as you bring sorrow at times to God, you also bring joy to God and in the same way children will bring sorrow and joy to you.
Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that you will see children as God sees children; that you will see children as a blessing and a reward from God; and that God will show you your purpose in having children in your life.
