December 5, 2018 Verse Of The Day

Giving to the needy

But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, so that your giving may be in secret. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. Matthew 6:3-4

Revelation 3:21 The Reward Of Being Victorious

To the one who is victorious, I will give the right to sit with me on my throne, just as I was victorious and sat down with my Father on his throne. Revelation 3:21

Getting a reward is something many people want. They look forward to being victorious and getting the reward that is being offered. Football players look forward to getting the Superbowl ring for a reward of their hard work at playing the game. Workers strive for the employee of the year for their hard work. There are thousands of different rewards out there of every type that people desire.

With any of the rewards it does take work and dedication. A person has to be focused on what he is doing in order to earn the reward. He has to be victorious in the work being done.

Just believing in Jesus and repenting of sins brings a reward of eternal life for every believer. It is something that they may look forward to getting.

Jesus also points out that there is a reward for being victorious. This reward is the same that He had received, to be able to sit on a throne. When Jesus rose from the dead, victorious, He was allowed to sit on the Father’s throne. Now, when a believer is victorious in following Him, he will be allowed to sit on the throne of Jesus.

Victorious means that  a person will continually turn from sin, obey God’s commands, do the work God has sent for him to do, be a witness for Jesus and build His kingdom on this earth.

To do any of these things, a person must be focused on God. He must make his life dedicated to serving God with all of his abilities. This has nothing to do with salvation, but with serving God.

Just as with any victory, being victorious in your own life will take some work. It takes focus to turning away from all sin and seeking ways to serve God in every moment of your life.

Jesus is waiting to hand out the reward of sitting on His throne to every one who is victorious. It is not just for one or two people. It is for you and everyone else who is victorious in following Him.

Ask yourself if you are being victorious in your walk with God. Are you doing all you can to get that reward?

I pray today that you will know what God has in store for you; that God will strengthen you to turn from all sin; that you will be His witness in this world; and that you will receive the reward God has for you.

2 John 8 Watch Out Or Lose

Soldier Watching

Watch out that you do not lose what we have worked for, but that you may be rewarded fully. 2 John 8

Nobody likes to lose. Every person wants to win at whatever they are trying to achieve. Losing usually means failure in some way or another.

Yet, many people are losing all the time. They are losing what they and others have worked for. Some will work very hard to accomplish some type of task, and then about midway through they give up and lose everything they had accomplished so far.

Marriages are started and can last several to many years, then suddenly fall apart into a divorce because of failure to watch out for problems that arise. Reputations are lost on a regular basis, because people don’t watch out for what they are doing and let it go.

Many believers have fallen away from God and the church, because they are not watching out what they are doing and where they are at. They have lost the gift of eternal life that Christ has given them, because they have not kept their eyes on God, and began to follow the world.

Those who are believers in Jesus are the results of the work of others being a witness and the work of Jesus in their lives. This salvation can be given up and lost, when a person chooses to turn away from God and follow the world. They chose to follow the teachings of this world, rather than the teachings of Jesus.

John tells the people to watch out. They are to keep a close eye on their walk with God. They need to keep a close eye on how they are living in this world. Each believer must continue, on a daily basis, to choose to live for Christ and to act upon the teachings of God, rather than the teachings of this world.

Every day you must open your eyes and keep a watch out on how you are living for God. Take a look at your life and see if the way you are acting, speaking and thinking is following the teachings of Jesus, or the teachings of this world.

Keep you life focused on Christ and God’s word and you will not lose in the end, you will be rewarded with eternal life in heaven with God. Watch out so that you do not lose this great reward.

I pray today that you will know the reward God has for you; that you will watch out for deceptions that will come your way; that you will live your life by God’s way; and that you will not lose the reward God is giving you.

Genesis 15:1 Your Shield And Reward

“After this, the word of the Lord came to Abram in a vision: Do not be afraid, Abram. I am your shield, your very great reward.” Genesis 15:1

Abram had moved away from Ur. He and his nephew, Lot, separated to different areas. Several kings of the area decided to go to war with Lot and captured him. Abram went in and rescued lot. Later God gives Abram a vision that He would be his shield and great reward.

People look to many different things to protect them. The most common things are a large bank account, retirement fund, a job, or family. It is commonly thought that if a person has enough money, nothing can hurt them. Yet, even with all the money in the world, none of it will stop some forms of cancer or other sicknesses. Even in great jobs, people get laid off. Family turns on each other or move away. These things are all temporary and cannot be relied upon.

God is the only one who is there through it all. He will be your shield that no weapon can get through. No army is large enough to break through God’s defenses. The only thing that is allowed to get past God is what He allows. Everything that He allows to get through is for your own good.

This is where He is also your great reward. What better thing could you have than God on your side? He provides abundantly for all of your needs.

God is not just some temporary reward, like a large bank account or retirement fund. God is there for all eternity, day and night. He is always available and trustworthy.

Bank accounts, jobs, and family will all fail at times. God will never fail you.

Abram wondered how God would reward him since he did not have a son. In time God gave him a son in a miraculous way. God gave him many nations and through him all nations were blessed.

What can God do for and through you?

Are you looking to God as your great shield and reward?

I pray today that you will know how God shields you; that you will know the reward you have in Jesus; that you will know God is for you; and that you will trust God in every situation in your life.

Hebrews 6:10 Not Forgotten

“God is not unjust; he will not forget your work and the love you have shown him as you have helped his people and continue to help them.” Hebrews 6:10

Everywhere a person looks there are things that have occurred that are not seen. Look at a business that looks very clean. Usually the cleaning occurs at night, afterhours. The work being done shows greatly, but the one who did it is not seen. If the work was not done, everyone would very quickly notice.

This same type of work occurs in the church. There are things done behind the scenes. The book work for the records, the cleaning, the sermon preparation, the building maintenance, the worship practice, and many other things. Many of the people who do these things are unseen by the general church. Very few people will give thanks to them for their work.

Along with this, outside the church, there are believers who are doing little things for God all the time. The helping mow an elderly person’s yard, providing a meal for a family in need, paying someone’s bills, giving an encouraging word to someone, praying with someone, and many other things.

All of these things are often done in ways that seem unseen and ungrateful. Yet, God sees all of these things. He is also keeping a list of everything thing that is being done.

You may be one of these people doing something that does not seem to be accounted for. You may feel like no one is grateful for all the hard work you are doing behind the scenes. Yet, God sees all your work. He will not forget what you have done for Him.

There will come a day when God will reward you openly for all that you have done in secret. Do not become discouraged and give up. Keep working for the Lord, even when it seems like it is unseen.

God has promised great rewards for those who are doing His work. Those rewards may come in this life, or in life eternal, but they will come. Trust God and rely on Him to give you the strength to keep working for Him.

I pray today that God will strengthen you as you do His work; that God will reveal some of the rewards He has for you; that God will reveal to you ways to love and help others around you; and that God will provide abundantly for all of your needs as you pour into others.

Matthew 6:1 Doing to Be Seen

“Be careful not to practice your righteousness in front of others to be seen by them. If you do, you will have no reward from your Father in heaven.” Matthew 6:1

In this verse Jesus points out that you are supposed to work at being righteous. He tells you that your are to practice your righteousness.

No one is born perfect and no one really does what is right before God without God’s leading. A person who plays a sport must practice everyday in order to get good at it. Being able to play any sport well does not automatically happen, it takes lots of dedication and practice.

As a believer you must practice living right before God. You must work at doing what God wants you to do.

However, Jesus tells you to be careful in how your practice your righteousness. You must not do it around others just to be seen by them.

Very often people in the church will do something for God and then will brag about it to everyone. They want to be sure that everyone has seen their “righteous” act.

This is acting just like the world. People in the world are always pointing out what they have done to look good. Many will even say they are a good person and deserve to go to heaven because of their good deeds.

Jesus states that if you do these righteous acts to be seen, then you already have your reward. God the Father will no longer give you a reward for that righteous act when you get to heaven.

This does not mean that other people cannot give you honor for doing something. What is not to happen is for you to purposely do it for that honor from a person. God may use others to honor you, but you must not seek that honor yourself.

Everything you do must be done for God and Him alone to see. Earlier Jesus had stated that you must do things so that the world will see and give God praise, not to give you praise.

Do not give up the rewards that God has in store for you. He is perfect and can give the perfect everlasting gifts. The praise of the world is only temporary and conditional.

I pray today that God will guide you in living a righteous life; that you will do the right things for God; that your heart will be focused on God; that all you do will be for God; and that God will reward you richly for your actions.
