But as for me, I am filled with power, with the Spirit of the Lord, and with justice and might, to declare to Jacob his transgression, to Israel his sin. Micah 3:8
Revealing something that is wrong often takes some bravery and strength. In today’s society there have been some whistle-blowers who have done that with different businesses and government officials. When it occurs, the whistle-blower often gets ridiculed and ostracized by many others. Their life is often in danger.
No one likes to be shown that they are wrong and will often retaliate in anger, rather than hear and change. It is humiliating to be proven wrong.
Micah stated that he was filled with God Spirit and power to be able to talk about what sins Israel had been doing. He was filled with justice to stand for God’s standard of living.
When sin is pointed out in a person, many people immediately tell the others that they should not judge the person. They take offense to the truth about their lives.
As this occurs, many believers are quiet about sin in the lives of others. They do not want to offend anyone or make them mad. They allow others to live in sin, even those who claim to believe in God.
This is not showing God’s love, nor His character. God reveals sin so that it can be dealt with. Without knowing that a person has sin in his life, he has no reason to believe in and follow Jesus. All that Jesus did becomes worthless to him. It is only because of sin that anyone needs Jesus.
Believers must be willing to reveal sin in others. However, this must be done not only boldly, but also in love and compassion with the guidance of the Holy Spirit. It is to be done with the purpose of restoring a person, not to tear them down and destroy them.
As a believer you must be willing to hear others when they point out sins in your life. Be willing to change and live more for God in every area of your life.
And as you are open to criticism in your own life, be open to the Spirit’s leading to reveal what is wrong in the lives of others. Share it with a loving and caring heart, striving to restore a person. Be careful not to crush or destroy others as you point them to God and His ways of living.
I pray today that you will know the forgiveness Jesus has for you; that you will pass the forgiveness of Jesus on to others; that God will reveal areas of your life that need to change; and that you will have God’s love and Spirit in leading others to Him.
