Ezekiel 28:11-12 What You Were

The word of the LORD came to me: “Son of man, take up a lament concerning the king of Tyre and say to him: ‘This is what the Sovereign LORD says: ” ‘You were the seal of perfection, full of wisdom and perfect in beauty.’ ” Ezekiel 28:11-12

God is asking Ezekiel to weep over Tyre. The city had been described in the previous chapters as being one of the best of the best cities in the world. Now God describes it as one of perfection, wisdom and beauty. Everything that a city could want or be, this city was. Yet, they had chosen to reject God and live a life of sin. They promoted dishonest trade and sin, and now God was going to destroy them and wipe them off the face of the earth.

There have been people and nations whom God has raised up for great things. He has given them His favor in every area of their life. Everything that they touch appears to turn to gold. Success is seen in everything they do.

In the process of gaining all that great wisdom and perfection, many have lost one thing that made it all possible. They have lost sight of God and what He desires.

Over time, many great nations have fallen and been destroyed. Some have been completely wiped of the face of the earth, while others have been made very small compared to what they once were. Looking back over their history, one can see how the nation had turned away from God, which led to their downfall and destruction.

Neither nation nor individual is immune to this happening. Over the years there have been many believers who have risen up very high in status and ministry throughout the world, who have chosen a moment of sin over God. Once the choice was made, there have been the consequences and their ministry has crumbled, destroyed forever.

No matter what your position in this life is, high or low, small or great, in Jesus you are in the position of wisdom, beauty, and perfection. God can and will do great things in and through you, if you stay in that position.

Do not allow pride or sin to diminish who God made you to be. Do not put God in a position of saying “you were”. Allow Him to say “you are” in Jesus the sign of perfection, wisdom and beauty.

I pray today that you will be all God made you to be; that you will not allow sin in your life; that you will be filled with God’s perfection, wisdom and beauty; and that God will use you to build His kingdom on this earth.
