Psalm 145:8 Slow To Anger

The LORD is gracious and compassionate, slow to anger and rich in love. Psalm 145:8

As things go wrong in a person’s life, the first thing many feel is that it is because God is angry with them. The feeling that God is in the process of judging them for what they had done wrong.

These feelings come because of the way many are treated by those in the church. Judgement comes very quickly. Christians are often very angry with those in the world and quickly judge them as bad people.

People in the church often forget how gracious and compassionate God is towards them. They forget how sinful they really were and often still are. Many forget how horrible each one of their sins are.

Keep in mind that if you sin one time, that sin brings the judgement of immediate death upon your head. God does not serve out that sentence immediately. He is gracious and compassionate with you.

God knows that you are human and will fail and fall short of His glory. He made provision for that. He chose to send His Son Jesus to pay the price for your sin.

Think about how quickly you or someone you know rises in anger against someone else. If someone were to kill your son in cold blooded murder, what would your immediate reaction be? Most people would be to want to strike back in anger, judgement and punishment.

Unlike humans, God is very slow to anger. He has been putting up with mankind’s ways of living in sin for thousands of years. Each and every person deserves punishment in the worst way. Yet, His great love holds His anger and judgement back.

God does not want any person to die in sin, and this includes you. When things are going rough in your life, it is not necessarily God judging you. It may be God attempting to get your focus back onto Him. Everything works out for your benefit because of God’s great love for you.

So when things are rough or someone is being bad towards you, remember God’s great love and compassion. Take on His being gracious towards others and do not get so angry with them. Show God’s love towards them.

I pray today that you will know God’s great love and compassion in your life; that God will help you not get so angry; that you will be rich with God’s love towards others; and that you will be His light in this world.
