Praise the LORD. Praise the LORD, you his servants; praise the name of the LORD. Let the name of the LORD be praised, both now and forevermore. Psalm 113:1-2
“Praise the Lord” is a phrase that many Christians use often. When something goes really well for a person, this phrase is shouted. In churches around the world, people are encouraged to praise the Lord.
What does it mean when that phrase is stated?
It is giving honor to God. It is letting Him know what He has done is great. Praise is lifting Him up and placing Him on the throne of one’s life. It is letting others know how great God is.
At the time the psalmist had written this psalm, Jesus had not died on the cross for the sins of the people. Jesus had not yet risen from the dead to be able to remove all sins from the life of a person. Yet, the psalmist was still willing to praise the Lord and encourages it to be done forever.
Today people have Jesus to look to for a great reason to praise the Lord. He has redeemed every person who believes in Him from a life of sin and death. This alone can give a person to give God praise at all times.
However, not every believer is constantly giving God praise both now and forevermore. Most people go in streaks in praising God. Every Sunday people fill the church and give God praise, but on Monday they go back to complaining to God about having to go back to work.
People complain to God about many things, rather than give Him praise. They focus on the problem, rather than focus on the God who able to overcome the problem or get them through it.
You are going to have tough times in this life. You could allow yourself to be like the world and complain to God about them. Or you could focus on what Jesus has already done for you and give Him praise.
You could focus on how Jesus is bigger than the problems and give Him praise.
Think about all that God has done already for you and all that He can and will do for you in the future, and you will break out in praise to Him.
Praise the Lord, both now and forevermore!
Give Jesus praise today!
I pray today that you will know what God has done for you; that you will focus your eyes on Jesus; that you will be filled with praise for Jesus; and that you will sing praises to God day and night.
