In God, whose word I praise, in the LORD, whose word I praise–in God I trust and am not afraid. What can man do to me? Psalm 56:10-11
Fear of people is one of the most common fears of people all over the world. Some fear physically for their life when around some people. Others fear what some people may or may not do.
Children express a fear of others that most adults attempt to suppress, (with very little success)–fear of what others are thinking about them. Most people are concerned, or in reality are in fear, of what people are thinking. Questions like: did I wear the right clothes? Do my clothes match? Does my hair look straight? Did I do the job right? and many more questions are asked by people all the time. These are asked in fear that one is wrong.
As David writes these words, he points out that it is in God’s word that he praises. It is what God says that David is praising. He is not concerned what the people are thinking or saying.
The reason David is not concerned with what the people are saying is that he knows that man cannot really do anything to him. What is the worst that a human can do to another human? Torture and kill, and nothing more.
Every believer needs to keep this in focus. The only thoughts that matter are what God is thinking about you. It is only God who can kill the body and soul for all eternity, so it is His thoughts that you must be concerned about.
God’s thoughts about you are not ones to destroy you, but to build you up and make you prosper. God wants you to succeed in this life, not necessarily in money and fame, but in living a life that honors and obeys Him. Doing God’s will is the most important thing you can do in this life. Living for God will ensure prosperity in eternity.
Are you fearing what men say or think?
Do you fear what man may try to do to you?
Focus your thoughts on what God is saying to you. Read the Bible and see what good things God is saying to you. Now give Him praise and do not fear any man on this earth. They can’t really do anything anyway.
I pray today that you will know what God is saying to you; that you will not fear what others say or think; that you will trust God’s word to you; and that you will praise God at all times.
