2 Kings 2:2 Staying On Track

Elijah said to Elisha, “Stay here; the LORD has sent me to Bethel.” But Elisha said, “As surely as the LORD lives and as you live, I will not leave you.” So they went down to Bethel. 2 Kings 2:2

Elijah had received word from God that very soon he would be taken from the earth. Elisha had been following him and learning him for some time. Elijah had told Elisha to stop following him, since God was about to take him away. Elisha refused to stop and kept on following him. Three times he was told to stop following and all three times he answered the same.

When a person begins to go on the trip, in which he was given directions, there is only one way to ensure that he gets to his destination: he has to stay on track and keep following the directions given. If he chooses to take a different path, there will be a possibility that he will never arrive to his destination or it may take longer. There is a reason for him to follow the directions.

In the same way when a person is at a workplace and is learning the job, the best way to learn is to follow the boss closely. One needs to learn as much as possible and always move forward. The challenging part is to continue to follow the boss when things start to get rough or look bad.

Many people decide it is not for them when things start to go bad. They choose to take a different path or they just plain give up. Other people will even tell them to change paths.

Elisha was not going to stop following his leader. He was going to learn as much as he could all the way up to the end.

As a believer you have begun to walk a path with Jesus and under other believers. Jesus had said that anyone who starts to follow Him and then turns back or looks back is not worthy to follow Him.

Follow the path God has given you and do not turn back no matter how bad it may look. It looked bad for Elisha knowing that Elijah was about to be taken away., yet he continued to follow him.

What path has God put you on?

Are you staying on that path?

Or are you contemplating leaving it for something else?

I pray today that God will reveal the path He has for you; that God will give you the strength to stay on His path; that you will not turn from God’s directions; and that God will bring you to the destination He has for you.
