“And they sang a new song, saying: You are worthy to take the scroll and to open its seals, because you were slain, and with your blood you purchased for God persons from every tribe and language and people and nation.” Revelation 5:9
John had a vision of heaven. In it he saw a scroll with writing on it. It was sealed and no one was worthy to open it. Then it is revealed that the Lamb of God was worthy. Jesus is the Lamb of God and is the only one who can open the seals.
At that point the creatures and elders started singing a new song about how He is worthy to open the seals. In their song they reveal why Jesus was worthy to open the seals. It was because He had purchased salvation for every person, everywhere with His own blood.
People love to have the honor of doing something special. Think of the honor it is to be chosen to sing the national anthem at a major league baseball game. Or to be the soldier chosen to be a guard at the national cemetery. Most people never have a chance to do anything on those levels.
The people who are chosen for these types of honors are usually chosen because of something that they did in the past. They have done something extraordinary or extremely well in order to get that honor.
Jesus did something that was of great honor. He did something that no other person has ever done or ever will do. He allowed Himself to be killed in order to save those who did not love Him or want Him. Jesus shed His blood on the cross and died so that you, who hated Him, could be forgiven and allowed into heaven.
Jesus did this for every person that has ever walked on this planet. Millions, even billions of people can now have a relationship with God because of what Jesus did for them. Jesus died on the cross for you. This was the greatest purchase the world has ever seen. This gives Him an honor that is greater than any other honor in the world.
Think about what Jesus has done for you. Give Him praise and thanks for purchasing your salvation for you. He will open that scroll up for you.
I pray today that you will know the price Jesus paid for your sins; that you will serve Jesus with all of your being; that you will give Jesus the honor due Him; and that you will be His witness to everyone you meet.
