“Anyone who runs ahead and does not continue in the teaching of Christ does not have God; whoever continues in the teaching has both the Father and the Son.” 2 John 9
Every person is in the race of life. At times during this race you may be walking very slowly. Other times you may be running as fast as you can.
The world tells you to run at all times. You need to get out there and do everything and get everything. According to the world you only have a short time on this earth and must enjoy it all as quickly as possible. So many things to do, people to see, and places to go with so little time is the motto of the world.
As a believer in Jesus, you are told to walk with God. God is never in a rush. God has all time in His hands so there is no reason to go fast.
Just like a person who walks slowly through the woods on a path because he wants to enjoy the scenery, you must walk with God to enjoy life fully. Do not forget that Jesus came to give you life and life abundantly.
John is telling you that if you run ahead and leave the teachings of Christ, you have lost God.
How is it that running ahead causes you to leave the teachings of Christ? As I stated earlier, you are to walk with God. This walk implies that you are next to Him and hear everything He says and you go where He goes.
If you run ahead you are no longer walking with God. You are now out on your own. You can no longer hear what God is telling you. You are now doing your own thing.
Slow down in life and walk with God everyday. Allow God to talk with you and show you the path you need to walk. Do not deceive yourself into thinking you know what is best or what is around the next corner. Trust God and God alone.
I pray that today you will walk beside God in every step of life; that God will guide your steps; that you will listen to God’s voice; that you will follow the teachings of Jesus; and that you will not run ahead of God.
