“This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you: God is light; in him there is no darkness at all. If we claim to have fellowship with him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live out the truth.” 1 John 1:6-7
John tells you that the message they heard from Jesus is that God is light and there is no darkness in Him at all.
What does it mean that God is light? It is telling you that God is pure and holy. Sin is done in darkness. @#!*% is described as a place of dark torment. God has absolutely no sin in Him at all. He is without any spot or wrinkle.
Now John goes on to talk about people. Many people claim to have fellowship with God. The truth of their claim can be seen in how they live their lives.
More and more often today you see individuals and even full churches claiming to have fellowship with God but follow ungodly ways. Drunkenness, gossiping, sleeping around, and lying are all accepted. These are just some of the things that are accepted in “Christians” lives and “Christian churches” that the Bible distinctly talks against as sinful.
Many people in the church get mad at you when you speak against some of these sinful practices. It is even getting to the point that you can even get in trouble with the government.
In these verses it clearly states that living in that darkness while claiming fellowship with God is living a lie. Millions of people are living in that deception. Remember that Satan is the father of lies. He lives to deceive.
Each day you need to ask yourself if you are living in the light with God. Or are you allowing yourself to live in the darkness? Any sin, no matter how big or small, is a dark spot in your soul and life. One small dark spot will allow for more dark spots to come in and push the light out.
Once you give in to one sin, it is easier to give into again and again. Along with that it makes it easier to commit another sin. These sins will compound and allow the darkness to grow in your life.
Today seek God to reveal any darkness in your life. Ask God to remove the sins. The blood of Jesus will purify you of all sin and make your life white like snow. This is the light of God in your life.
I pray that today God will remove all sin from your life; that God will help you to overcome any sinful actions in your life; that God will help you to walk in His light daily; and that you will have true fellowship with Him.
