“Grace and peace be yours in abundance through the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord.” 2 Peter 1:2
Peter opens his second letter with a blessing to all believers in Jesus. He prays that grace and peace be to every believer in abundance. This is coming from an apostle who had been rebuked by Jesus for not knowing God’s ways; who sank when walking on the water with Jesus; who tried to kill a man while protecting Jesus and was rebuked again; who denied Jesus.
Grace is often described as unmerited favor of God. Peter had denied Jesus when He went to the cross; yet, Jesus had given him grace and had a ministry for him to do. He, now, asks that you receive God’s favor in abundance also. Each person deserves only God’s wrath and punishment for all the wrongs that have been done. No one deserves to be saved. Yet, in His great love and mercy, God has chosen to save you from your sins. That alone has given you much favor with God.
Peter also asks for peace to be given in abundance. In this world of turmoil and troubles, peace is very hard to find. Even the world is seeking peace. Jesus stated that He would give you His peace and it was a peace the world cannot understand. As a believer, if you fully trust that God is in control of everything going on, you can have a peace in spite of the trouble occurring around you. People stand amazed as they watch a person going through major troubles as though nothing was happening. This is a sign of God’s peace in their lives.
How can you have this grace and peace? It is found in the knowledge of God and of Jesus. When you get to really know God and Jesus, you will see the love they have for you. This love is a perfect unconditional love. It is a love that seeks the best for you. When you realize this love that God has for you, you will know the grace and peace of God in your life.
As you are going through difficult times, seek to know Jesus more and more. Gain an understanding in how God works in the lives of people and the world. Know the grace and peace He has for you and know it in abundance. This is not just a little grace and peace, but a lot more than you can possibly imagine.
I pray that today you will know God and Jesus more and more; that God will give you His grace in abundance; that God will fill your heart with His peace in abundance; and that God will draw you closer to Him more each day.
