“His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness.” 2 Peter 1:3
Over and over it is stated that a person must live a godly life, to be holy as God is holy. When you look at how holy God is and how perfect Jesus is, it is hard to imagine being able to ever be holy and perfect. Often the question then comes as to how it is possible to live that type of godly life required.
Peter tells us that God has given you everything you need for a godly life. This is also done through the knowledge of God and Jesus. How do you find out about God? God has revealed Himself first in His Word–the Bible. Read and study the Bible to find out who God is, what He is like and what He desires of you.
Scriptures state that the Word is useful for all training and correction in righteousness. There is no situation in life that you could possibly face that there is not some Word of God in the Bible to guide you in. Not everything is black and white, but there are many principles laid out in the Bible to guide you. An example: nowhere does it state to not watch a meaningless multiple killing movie, yet, it does say to think about whatever is good. This is a guideline on how to think. What you watch will become what you think about.
God has also revealed Himself in creation. Look at the complexity and order of creation to see the power of God. If God has the power to control all of creation, He will have the power to help you in your situation in life.
Every sin that you do is by your personal choice alone. No one can force you to do what you do not want to do. The problem comes in when the pressure gets high enough people often give in and commit the sin. When you know and love God as He knows you and loves you, you will not want to sin. You will want to live that godly holy life. You will want to please Him and Him alone. Seek God for that power that is needed to live a holy life.
I pray that today God will open your eyes to what He has given you to live a holy life; that God will reveal more of Himself to you each day; that you know God in an intimate relationship; that God will fill you with His Holy Spirit to guide and strengthen you; and that you will turn away from all sin.
